Winter Tyres

If I put winters tyres on in Oct can I leave them on all year round as a direct replacement to the Wranglers that will need replacing then ? .
Anyone do this or always put the summer ones back on in March/April .
Looking at Dunlop SP 3D Winter Sport

Thanks

There are some winter tyres you can run all year such as the Vredestein wintracs, but I have no knowledge of the Dunlops.
I set out to run my Vreds all year but I decided to buy a second set of summer wheels and tyres and got brand new 18 235 60's on brand new Evoque alloys which cost less than the Vreds alone. Fleabay has its uses.
If you have the storage space, I think its the way to go because if you are shelling out for winter tyres you want them to last two or three winter seasons. It sounds extravagant but if you are keeping the car for a while it makes financial sense. _________________

Winter tyres are made from a softer compound, thus they wear relatively quickly - particularly in the warmer conditions of summer. In winter, though, they need plenty of tread to be effective, and as a result you may find you need to replace them more often than if you had one set for summer and one for winter. If you're not planning to keep the car long that may not matter, but over a longer period two sets may be more cost effective. Personally, I've gone the second-set route.

Very similar to me Lurcher. 3 years old in September, 30k and I did 8k in the last year. The way I see it is I can always sell the second set if needs be, and as the winter tyres were £680 and new all year tyres with new alloys were £560, it was a no brainer. I think that winter tyres operate best at anything below 7 degrees, so if you decide to have one set then personally I would go for a M&S all year tyre rather than winters set. Good luck either way mate. _________________

My has wranglers fitted as standard- bought a set of Vredestein Wintrac extreme 4's for the winter ! my word the difference in grip was astounding. Managed to drive about 300+ miles in deep snow without a single wheel slip or abs coming on. It was like driving on pure tarmac.
I reckon the difference with the winter tyres is as much again as the difference between 2WD & 4WD in the snow.
i would never of believed it until I tried it.

After much research and trawling I am pretty much sold on Winters ( when its a bad un its a bad un here ) , its looking at the cost of purchasing additional alloys plus the tyres .
The current Wranglers are hovering around 4mm at the moment at 22k , I guess they are the originals , dont spose they will be far off due for change come Oct .
Options are source set of alloys and appropriate winter tyres or just put new winters on existing alloys in Oct then look to source new Summer ones come spring and swop back .
