Anybody got any GS 17 inch 6 spoke alloy wheels they want to swap for SE 17 inch 5 split spoke alloy wheels?

The reason is that my current Conti’s are down to about 3mm, so I was looking at the price of new tyres and ended up buying a cheap set of 4 GS alloys with Goodyear tyres, delivery mileage only, on ebay.

So I now have 4 used SE alloys, dirty but with no damage (approx 3 mm depth) and a brand new full size spare SE alloy with a brand new Conti tyre that are apparently ‘in the way and cluttering up the garage’!!!! I had intended keeping them for offroading.

Perhaps someone has severely damaged one or two of their GS alloys but can’t afford to buy new ones and wants to swap the good ones?

I will swap them for 2 or 3 good condition GS alloys and tyres, as I want one as a full size spare and at least another as a ‘spare’ spare in case I end up damaging an alloy over the next few years.

Long shot I know, but someone may be interested.

If not I’ll spilt them up on ebay, as I’ll probably get more for the brand new alloy and tyre than I will for the used ones.

All sounds a bit odd to me . So you are now driving and SE with GS wheels on? Ok so not a big deal, but what if you trade it in? the dealer will be confused (not difficult ) Or are you reckoning on going through the GS set of tyres and buying SE/XS wheels with new tyres in the future, again cheap on ebay?

My own plan at the moment is to use my XS wheels until nearly worn then buy HSE or 19" wheels with new tyres from ebay. (or just buy XS/SE wheels with tyres). But I would not go down a level to GS wheels it just doesn't seem right! I do realise the difference is only looks as the tyres are exactly the same.

If I was you I would have used the spare wheel and bought 3 new tyres, using the best old tyre/wheel as the spare? You did say 3mm so excellent for a spare! leaving you with 4 new tyres on SE wheels and a legal spare on an SE alloy.

I've just read your post again and remain confused? prehaps I was confused before I read it?
Maybe I'm getting like Tim and imagining things?

Ahhh, but CG you have forgotten one thing - don't bid for anything on ebay unless you actually need/want it! I put in a really low offer and got it.

I normally do as you suggest, and put the spare on and get 3 new tyres (except on my FL1 where I killed an alloy 2 weeks before I traded it in).

My plan was to use the SE's off road, the GS ones until the where fairly well used and then swap back, with new Conti's on the SE alloys.

Unfortunately I thought I had authority to say what went into the garage, but.......

My bright idea was to put this on the forum and show the other half that I was serious about getting rid of them. If there are no takers then I think I have a good case for appeal!

I thought you must have got the GS wheels for a very good price most of the other stuff makes sense but I wouldn't loose the SE wheels unless I was confident of finding some SE's or better cheaply in the future!

Dedicated off road wheels sounds good but can anybody really be bothered to change them? even then your problem would be using your best alloys off-road and the GS ones on-road

As for the other half, why not go through her shoe collection and make her dispose of all the un-needed pairs  At work

Why not repost your ad in the for sale section and we will all post saying you would be mad to get rid of them, so you can show the other half our replies ? At work

I'll mention that the trade in price on the car may be a problem in the future. I like the shoe idea

Seems pretty easy to confuse CG maybe - Both Viking and myself (at least) here in Norway have HSE FL2's and for half the year we drive round with S-wheels (16") and half the year with HSE-wheels (18") which is quite normal for us Would have thought it was a good idea for UK drivers to have two sets of wheels as well All be it for slightly different reasons
PS it is better to use small ones in winter  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Personally I think the garage should be the mans domain and we should have the right to fill it with whatever junk we desire . Saying that I seem to be one of the few people in the UK who actually uses his garage as a car park instead of a storage area of all kinds of  At work

It all works a bit different over here For ex. Ive read on here somewhere that dealers have 4 different wheel size settings available, presumable for the stability control  At work

When I changed my 17" wheels for 19" I was advised to have the dealer calibrate the 19" wheels to the car, which took 30 minutes connected to IDS and they charged £49 + VAT.

Do AndyC and Viking get the dealer to tell the car about each wheel change? or is not that important?

Hi GWO - Now thats an interesting question . So far I (and presumably Viking) have only used the 16"'s with winter tyres since mine was got in November, so to be honest I dont know yet, as I havnt swapped over to the 18"'s. 18" wheel's have been staying at the "Hotel LandRover" since November and as there is still plenty of snow in our mountain playground we wont be swapping until after the next visit  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
