Freelander as a camper van

I have used my Freelander as a camper van, mainly at Land Rover meetings only for a weekend.
Itīs less hassle than mounting and dismounting a rooftent of 45kg.

My very first 4-wheeled vehicle was a 1948 Ford 8 van that I had when I was at college in 1965. The back of that looked very similar to yours............ Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto

So you have a mattress made to measure, for a camping trip, but were do you put the luggage, the cooking and wash stuff, if you store it outside you might as well just sleep in a tent Confused

As this is your first post, can i remind you (just in case) of the Commercial Posting Rules Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thatīs right, itīs made to order.
As I mentioned before I only use it for weekend trips.
The rest of my gear is stored on the front seats during the night.

Npinks, youīre right saying that I might sleep in a tent but I donīt like sleeping on the ground and I feel safer with a door locked behind me.
Although a tent would have been much cheaper as well.

Do the same on one or two night stays or when I go to extreme locations where I cannot take the camper trailer/small van. I had an old mattress re-shaped to fit the FL2 shaping idiosyncracies and hand sewed a cover over it. I remove one of the rear seats (pretty quick and simple) and move the passenger seat forward to get enough leg room. It works well. The most important part is the use of "window socks" which allows air to move in and out of the vehicle. They also prevent mosquitoes, sand flies and other bugs from getting in.

just don't double lock (deadlock) yourself in like i did one, especially if your going to drop the keys into the passenger rear footwell and set the alarm off at 3am in the morning on a busy campsite Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thatīs why there is the extension one can see on the right.
Fortunately Iīm not that tall, 1,78m, so I can even stretch.

I keep the key on the "shelf" under the rear window to have it handy in case of emergency. Freelander 2 XE TD4_e, Lago Grey, manual, MY 2010
