Paul...that's what I first thought......

So I put the RC in, took a deep breath, counted to ten, pushed the button, and no joy Censored

I will be fascinated to see what the Dealer says having read all the posts smattered throughout the site.

If I was a betting man I would say the mystery will go on Yawn Freelander 2 TD4 HSE

Update...

2nd inspection...............still can't fault it and dealer can't recreate fault Censored Banging Head

However......another FR2 has been brought in today with the same fault (anyone on this board Question Question )

Hopefully they can fault it.

It's at Beadles in Sidcup................

Luckily, I am patient and haven't given up yet as the truck promises so much.

I'll have you know that I spend a full £12.50 filling up here with 98RON! Laughing

Water is more expensive than fuel here.......its a shame then that my company doesn't pay for water instead!!

Gambba....even with shipping costs I am pretty sure I could ship a tank a week over and it would still be cheaper Rolling with laughter

Good news...the car is ready for pickup Thumbs Up

The reason.......apparently there is a factory known fault in the ECU software that when you push the start button the computer does not know what gear the car is in or whether you have your foot on the brake or not Sad ..in short, it gets confused and may or may not start.

It must not be a programmed update because I queried whether these had all been done prior to picking up the car and they confirmed they had.......fingers crossed.

Anyway, software fix has been issued and downloaded and apparently all is fine. I have heard of software updates not doing the trick so will wait and see whether this solves the issue Yawn

Like Grumpy and Paul, mine has not fired up a few times when the button is pressed, but it has always done so on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. The worst being after my first fill-up at a very busy set of pumps. It's embarrasing not to just drive away, and the people behind just think you're pratting around Embarassed

The thing is to stay calm and just let it reset for a few seconds before trying again.

Don't know if mine is exactly the same fault as others are reporting, as I get no clicking or turning over, just a whirring like when a CD/DVD is spinning but the laser is failing to read it. Does this fit with the need for a software update theory? Was GS TD4 Auto, Privacy, Santorini with Tundra & Alpaca, Cold Climate Pack. Traded for Discovery Sport HSE Auto.

The key to this problem as I understand it, is that the car doesn't know what gear it is in and therefore it is hit and miss whether it will start or not.

Mine would sometimes not start at all and at other times would fire on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd attempt Censored .

It is, however, a known problem from the Land Rover factory and with a description of the problem with supporting commentary, your dealer should have no qualms about doing the update for you.

My car is fine now, fingers crossed, and hasn't missed a beat. Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 HSE

My car has never failed to start, but it does often spit the key out just after I push it in , annoying but not the end of the world. maybe because the key has been in my pocket it doesn't taste very good I might dip it in beer to see if that makes it more palatable! Or curry now that land rover is Indian Laughing .

I got all the hassle from the guys in the boozer on Friday night about owning a Tata and when are the new Tata badges arriving to replace the LR ones! But the main instigator of the hassle drives a Nissan Pathfinder so "he who laughs last laughs the longest" Rolling with laughter (He was dead set on a RRS until he got a price from the dealer and discovered his wallet isn't as big as his mouth Laughing ) At work

I allways put the key in and then my seatbelt and then start so that I do not rush the electronics. Never had a starting problem. Also I read somewhere here that if you start the car while the passanger is putting in the belt you might have a starting problem as this confuses the electronics. FREELANDER 2 TD4 SE (XS UK) IZMIR BLUE SIDE STEPS COLD PACK BI-XENON TINTED WINDOWS - AND PROUD OF HER

intermittent starting fault

I have found that if I hold the steering wheel when pressing start stop button this triggers the start problem I experienced. If i put my remote in the holder put on my seat belt then press the button everything is okay. However I do experience a transmission fault on the move saying traction is reduced, had LR assisatnce out on Wednseday who said I had a communication problem and installed latest software but to no avail problem retunred after three days Crying or Very sad

Don't worry about it. It's all about performing the necessary software updates which means you have to visit a dealer.

Called in at my dealer last week to pick up mudflaps, and mentioned the intermittent starting and what's been said on here about a software update. They said there's nothing listed against my vehicle - is this tosh?

I also mentioned about the driver's seat bolster material creasing. They were all for booking her in there and then, but I will bide my time, as it's a recognised problem. They just change the cover or the bolster and charge LR accordingly. Was GS TD4 Auto, Privacy, Santorini with Tundra & Alpaca, Cold Climate Pack. Traded for Discovery Sport HSE Auto.
