Evening all,

Has anyone had any experience of the indoor turbo trainers for bikes?? Due to weather, work and generally drivers getting evermore closer to my right elbow I think this might be the way forward between muddy off road rides!!

Just looking for any recommendations really, budget is around £150, using a GT Aggressor on hybrid tyres. Will prob get used 2-3 times a week doing about 15 miles a session.

First things first, its hard work, in that it soon becomes boring, i used to have music or the portable TV plajing when i used to have a Turbo trainer, think you'll be ok with Trax

Try and get one with a fluid drive, rather than a Mag drive, because the Mag ones can be very noisy and stick with it Not done anything for a good while due to poor health, but am on the mend and was just tinkering with my Cannondale Hardtail, at the weekend.

Thanks for the info! Looking at prices, looks like you can pretty much add £100 for fluid, there is wind and mag to go for.

Plus you sweat buckets!

Hi, I have an older model tacx turbo, the one that the model you are looking at replaced, They last forever as the resistance is not friction derived and has no wearing parts, i would look on ebay as many people use them once and get fed up with them.
if you buy 2nd hand make sure you get the tacx skewer for the back wheel as a normal skewer wont do and try to get a training tyre.
after 15 minutes or so , depending on the effort you put in the back tyre gets very hot, and a turbo specific tyre will resist overheating and be a lot quieter.
Put the turbo on a piece of old carpet, reacing right up to the front wheel to make it quieter and to catch the sweat, and consider a "sweat net"for your bike to prevent paint damage from sweat.
mount a cheap fan so it is blowing in your face and you will probably want some music on as it can get very boring.
