Bizarre Poll: Winter tyres vs iPad

Having finished the degree, I am starting to put a little bit of money to one side month by month (alongside polishing off the remainder of the fees).

The LPC starts in September and I was thinking of getting winter tyres now that I don't have the FL2. The problem is, an iPad would come in handy before kicking off the new course (not had an iPad/tablet before). Winter tyres £350 plus fitting (best price online). iPad 4 with retina display 16GB £350-£400 ish. I cannot afford both, no question about it.

Winter tyre pros: Get about in all but deep snow; safety in cold temps; prolongs life of normal tyres
Winter tyre cons: It might not snow so could get around with normal tyres; faffing with change over & tyre storage and associated costs

iPad pros: I have iPhone 5 and MacBook Pro so all will sync easy via iCloud; Easier to cart around than the laptop; Will be useful in lectures.
iPad negatives: A newer model is released every other week Rolling Eyes ; iPad 5 might be out by then which could be too dear; Can only afford entry level iPad 4 at current prices.

Just to humour me if nothing else, what do you reckon? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Buy the iPad, then when you get stuck you can check out the winter tyres you could've had, had you not listened to our advice. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I would go for the iPad. I love mine, but I'm not a fan of iPhones. I currently have the iPad 3 and I might get the iPad 5 comes out. I use mine most of the time, it's much quicker than my PC and now I've had it for nearly a year, I don't know how I lived without it!

Just buy an IPad why waste your money on a set of winter tyres for a winter that may never occur.

TBH, if the weather was that bad is it worth risking smacking your car up/breaking your neck or being hit by some other driver on normal tyres, just to get somewhere??
How important is getting somewhere with your winter tyres to find non one else managed to get there because they had normal tyres like 99% of UK car drivers.

Get a life, get an IPad or even better still the Nexus 10 and yes I have both Smile (GONE) FL2 2008 SE (manual) Santorini Black, the expensive one Sad

If the snow gets too bad, leave the car on the drive and stay in the warm with your iPad. If you were considering the iPad mini I'd say wait, there's bound to be a retina display mini soon... Wink 2020 Defender D200 110S Pangea Green
