iPad 4 vs wait for the iPad 5

Having posted the other poll, I am now leaning towards the iPad. I can get a good price on a 16GB iPad 4 (retina) just wireless (not bothered about cellular). I could buy now and get some decent use out of it as opposed to solely needing it for the LPC in September.

So, do I wait for the iPad 5 or buy now? Do you reckon the iPad 5 will be that much better as to justify the wait? (autumn release allegedly) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Don't rule out the cellular one, I did, then a few times I wished I had bought the 3G one, so I updated to iPad 4 with 3G, doesn't cost me much to run, I got a free Vodafone pay as you go sim, you get 500 meg of download per month for a fiver, if you buy three months at a time it only costs a tenner, when your month is up you lose what you haven't used of that month but your new month doesn't start till you choose, so if you don't need 3G for three weeks don't start the next packet. I haven't used it sparingly and never used all the 500 meg. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

The wifi only models don't have GPS, but if you tether them to an iphone can use location data from the iPhone's GPS...

If untethered, they'll still find your location, but do so based on the wifi network they're connected to.

To be honest I think the price jump for cellular is too steep. I like the sound of tethering it to my iPhone 5.

Also, my Mac and iPhone are fully backed up to iCloud and I have Skyfall on both. Will Skyfall copy over from iCloud do you think or will I need to hook it up to the Mac for that? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

If you bought Skyfall via iTunes it'll be immediately available on the ipad assuming you link it to the same iTunes account...

It was sort of via iTunes. I got a DVD copy when I bought the Blu-Ray movie and when you put it into the computer, you type in the code that came with the film and hey presto it downloads it. So in theory it should go onto the iPad... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Get one now. You know if you wait for the 5 you'll then be tempted to wait for the 6 and you'll end up not getting one at all! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I read the new iPad may have edge to edge display. But as always these things maybe just be myths.

Buy ipad now and enjoy it. Non cellular version is fine and use your iPhone to link to it if needbe as others have said.

There has never been any real noticeable leaps that the naked eye can see between the the previous models so just get an iPad 4 and be done with it. Razz

Followed by...

"Which memory size?"

"Do I get get it engraved?"

"Do I get the Apple Extended Warranty?"

Wink

Incidentally, my answers in order below:

As large as affordable.
No. Hard to sell on if it's engraved.
No. Waste of money.

There is a HUGE difference between non retina and retina display models. Mainly speed and image quality. So whatever you end up with, make sure it's a retina display model.

We bought one of our boys an iPod years ago, had it engraved, he's never forgiven us for it, he doesn't use it anymore as he uses the iPhone, but as you say, no one wants it as its engraved Thumbs Up p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
