One bonus is that Apple do a student discount and on the tyres front, I live on a main road which is a priority gritting route so as things stand I am leaning towards the iPad. 4th Gen iPad (Retina display model) for sure

Probably be until October until a new version arrives, but the current model is great.

Any non retina display iPads are just crap due to the screen being so low res and the speed is very slow in comparison. I have 1st Gen and 4th Gen so I know!

BTW: I had an offer the other day from Barclaycard. Buy any Apple product over £429 from an Apple Store/Shop and get 0% for 12 months. No good for me, but you may know someone with a Barclaycard who's willing to help you out on this!

I'm sure other offers will be out there, especially nearer to the time when a newer model becomes due.

Buy an iPad which you can use 363 days of the year.

On the other two days, you'll not be able to use the iPad because you'll be out stuck in the snow somewhere wishing you had bought the winter tyres.

The iPad 3 is retina display - same as the 4. I think retina is great but you'd e be surprised how many people can't tell the difference even when side by side!? We have a 2 and a 3 in the house currently.
