It's very sad and an appalling over site by Landrover Dealers and extremely frustrating for customers of a premium car.

I too have experienced first hand taking to a dealer with a suggested fix and even a TSB number or part number and they will try everything else first ! That's all very well but when I had a 60 mile round trip every time it's exasperating!

Follow the steering column down and there is a flap of carpet where the column goes into the bulk head. I wrapped a cloth around the column as it goes into the floor. If you were to put your fingers into this hole you can feel a rubber gromit around the steering column. I basically just stuffed this hole with an old pillow case to kind of form a loose seal. It's been there all day today and I haven't once noticed the turbo whistle

Ahhhhh...
My favourite topic!!!
Guess I've been a bit quiet on the forum recently... Lloyd is performing his duties just fine.
We have our summer tyres on (lol- forecast says it might snow!)
Best of all there is no turbo whistle!
If a dealer wants 2 days to do a 30 minute job then they should not be trusted!!!
There is a technical bulletin about this particular fix and ALL regional technical managers are aware of this fix!!!!!

Bit of a long shot but you don't have a link or a copy of the technical bulletin for this fix? I want to take it into the dealer to show them.

Hi,
Alas not privvy to that sort of info.
So would suggest:
1.) ask service manager to speak to TVLR- to one of the Grahams...they know all about my car "Lloyd"...
2.) ask them to submit an EPQR- that way the link to a fix will be delivered to them directly.
Most of all don't give them you'd car to fiddle with. In my experience it will waste your time and their time too.... Oh unless it's being done under warranty and they are planning to sting LR with a mighty and unnecessary bill!?
You have done the diagnostic test for this problem.
Also the first time Lloyd had his seal replaced the wrong part came. This should now be sorted with corrections in the supply chain. However, if the noise is still the same, the likely cause is the wrong part being replaced like for like. The new one is one for evoque.
Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advise... Yes the car is still under warranty so its not costing me anything. Its just costing me time like you said.

Might give the LR dealer i bought the car from to see if they know anything about it...

Currently I have a pillow case wrapped around the steering column because i'm enjoying the silence so much...

This is the part number they must order and fit to the best of my knowledge.

LR030346

THe problem is that if your vin is between 231677 and 254727 they might try to order LR024344. In theory LR024344 should be seen as NLA and replaced by LR030346.

According to the parts list I can see.it doesn't make it clear.

Notso sure about a TSB being available. I seem to remember seeing an SSM in our dealership though.

Yes my VIN number is between those numbers... I've given the dealer the correct part number and i believe they are calling TVLR to speak to them about this.

Not sure i can be bothered with all of the chasing i'm having to do to get this sorted. The part is only £12 and i could just fit it myself.

What is an SSM?

Steering Wheel Grommet

Hi all

Looking for an answer to the steering wheel grommet issue, as there doesn't seem to be any photos/diagrams using search: -

Does anyone have a picture of their car with the grommet (boot?) in place?
Looking at where the steering column goes through the floor, there is some minor corrosion and I expect there should be a seal which encompasses the steering column and attaches to the floor.

Is this the way it should look?

Cheers
LoP

I've been meaning to check mine, so went and had a look. It's the same as yours.

About the same on MY13 (obviously with less corrosion) and the underlay had a better cut Laughing
