Andy, do you have any information on when/if the AT2 will be available in 235/65/17? I'll need some tyres soon, and I don't know whether to go with the AT, or hold off in the hope that the AT2 will appear. Is the AT2 actually 'better' anyway?

The AT2 is the old pattern and has never been available in the 235/65x17 size.

The newer AT has been around now for some time in this size and is a very popular tyre.

Just had 4 new General Grabber ATs fitted through Black Circles (AJS being too far away - sorry Andy!). First impressions are good - they feel a bit sharper than the Avon Ice which were on, and there's no discernible increase in noise. The tread pattern looks like it will be good on mud and at clearing water too, despite the wet braking rating, and they were sure-footed on this mornings damp and in places icy roads. Very satisfied so far (after a whole 30 miles )

For anyone in North Durham or Tynedale, I got them fitted at Bowman Tyres in Wolsingham, and am happy to recommend them. Hexham would have been closer, but Bowmans are a Black Circles Premier garage (none of those in Hexham) and it's a nice run over to Weardale anyway. They fitted the Generals to my 'summer' wheels and swapped them for the winters on the car quickly and efficiently. They even looked up the correct torque for the nuts and used a torque wrench to make sure they were done up correctly - no quick blast with an air wrench here! Same for the pressures - inflated to the correct pressure and everything recorded on the documentation which was copied to me. I'll be using them again (but hopefully not for some time!).

Mind you, with conditions on the tops this morning you'd be forgiven for thinking I should have left the Avons on the car. There are still 2-3 foot snow drifts up there, although the roads are clear (thanks to ploughs and a snow blower) if a bit icy in places. But the forecast promises it'll be warm next week - we'll see!

Using General Grabber UHPs mainly because I dont do a lot of off road driving but do drag a caravan around. However during this extended winter in the borders the tyres have performed flawlessly in all conditions. I even had them up a steep eroded farm track on rock and mud covered with snow without problems. Everything is relative to my point of view

Just had 4 245/70/17 Grabber AT's fitted. Not gone offroad yet but theres no extra noise over the old standard road tyres it came with.

Also being oversized they look awesome

I'd completely forgotten but reading htrough this thread I guess I really should tell the insurance company that I've chnaged them

Couldnt comment on fuel economy as I had the car remapped within a couple of days and have been driving like my bums on fire until I noticed the clutch slipping  F2 GS TD4

General Grabber AT 255/65R18 x5 - Just completed a road trip to many parts of the Drakensberg (SA) of some 2,500 km of which 70% was on gravel, rutted roads and in some places quite rocky and corrugated. However, I wished that the tarred roads were also gravel as at a tyre pressure of 1.7kpa the ride was very comfortable although I sensed a bit of understeer. The vehicle has also been lifted (body lift only) by an additional 15mm so this quite possibly affected the feel. Average speed some 60kmph and found that the tyres performed very well indeed. No visible sign of damage to side walls. No change to wheel alignment and found steering quite normal - no veering to either side. Fuel consumption 8.7l per 100km. Early days just yet.

Thank you, certainly don't intend being a hero. I think the saying "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but no old, bold FL2 pilots"! would be well worth remembering.
