The 3.2 is a fantastic machine, I would like to see LR reintroduce a petrol engine to the range. My annual mileage doesn't justify a diesel engine. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I have to confess I quite fancied a Petrol just for the sound but I'm more than happy with my oil burner.... loads of toque...

Still - I'm glad I didnt because even on the diesel I dread looking at the pump prices every time because they are just silly...

BTW OT - Asda have took a fair chunk off prices again yesterday on both fuels....

I got some "spend £40 and get 12p off a litre of fuel" vouchers through the post from Sainsburys. I even got another voucher with 10p off a litre as they were doing a promotion! Very Happy

One of the reasons I have kept ours so long is that it doesn't have a DPF. But then again, the Mrs does a 15 mile motorway trip to work twice a week in her so I doubt I would have issues with a DPF anyway.

I just wish we had bought the 3.2 petrol! The straight 6 engine is brilliant.

But I have driven a 2.0 Turbo petrol Freelander 2 and it is superb! I don't know why LR have resisted in selling it in the UK! Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Annoyingly it seems they won't put the petrol in the UK FL2 for a few reasons:

Shortage of engines 'cos of success in Evoque (so why wouldn't it be a success in FL2)
They perceive there is little demand for it.
They think it is too difficult to engineer for RHD

Very disappointed..I'd buy one tomorrow

This is not true. Petrol Evoques take up a small percentage of build capacity. You are right that LR has the perception about there not being a market in theUK though.

But the FL2 2.0 Turbo petrol has been built in right hand drive for a good while now, they use it innJapan and Australia/New Zealand.

The petrol FL2 I drove was a RHD Japanese spec. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I'm not that interested in who, why or what may say what at LR...just bloody annoyed they won't build the car I want but will for other countries - however I do hold the eu to blame for starting the mess. It may well force me to another marque which is a shame after 4 freelanders.

Once the new 'hot fire' engines are in production we may see a petrol in the next generation Fl. I believe it will be on the same princeiple as the Ford Eco Boost engines, small capacity but high power output. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Actually, the 2.0L petrol engine is a consistently higher runner than the Dw12 for Evoque

This month it is (+/-) 6200 petrol versus 4300 diesel.

The rest of the year is similar.

But how many petrol Evoque's are for the UK market?
I heard the supply of petrol engines for the UK market is being restricted to meet demand in export markets?

Reading this makes me angry for 2 reasons.

In 2007 we seriously considered a new petrol HSE but decided to buy a petrol Mazda CX-7 which was a nice car.

When I decided on a 13MY Freelander, I was told that despite petrol ones rolling out of Halewood, they'd not make me a UK spec one. 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

2007 Mazda CX-7 2.3T Petrol (Still in the family)
2004 MG ZT-T 180 + V6 Monogram
2011 Mazda MX-5 1.8 Miyako (PX'd for the Landie)
Others of the past of note have included
MGTF 160, MGF, Ford Puma, Volvo V40 T4, Volvo 940 Wentworth, Rover R8, Volvo 360 GLT, Chrysler Horizon GLS.

I was at the dealer the other day here in Oz and they said 2nd hand FL2 petrols can be had very easily, they are collecting them, whereas the diesels don't get traded and are scarce. The petrol is also considerably cheaper. My feedback is they are too thirsty.
