Dear Sir/Madam,
Some of your chaps were getting in some practice over our village today and startled me.
They were not the usual Hawk trainer, but were somewhat very noisy with two large orange flames visible from the rear of the aircraft. This I believe is called 'afterburner', (something which previously i thought one caught after a day in the sun at Benidorm).
Normally, i would look up at the skies in admiration, but this time I'd got all the windows open as i was on the step ladders painting the ceiling.

If you chaps wouldn't mind fighting a real war this evening at 5pm when Mrs Pegleg comes home and discovers a whole tray of Wickes Flexible ceiling paint all over our lounge floor, you'd be more than welcome, although I very much doubt you'd win.
I've found the funny side, doubt Mrs Pegleg will.

Later this week, i'm going to install an outdoor FM aerial high on the gable end.

I remember years ago using out forklift to grab a pallet of fertiliser sacks 1.5 tonnes from a the top of a 4 pallet high stack, always a nervy job, gentle gentle slow slow just at the pint of easing out of the stack, sort of the point of no return an RAF tornado over flew the shed and made one hell of a noise.

I hunkered down in my tucking my head nearly under the seat expecting 30 50kg bags to rain on my head. still havn't forgiven the RAF for that At work

As one of the few for nearly 27 years (now retired) . Feel very privileged that you have seen one of the rare and few remaining, nearly extinct RAF . Everything is relative to my point of view

Back in the 80s you would have had one over your house every few minutes, we had an Airforce then. Spent many happy but sweaty hours having some great scraps there. The lad, or lass, who caused you to spill your paint was off side if he/she was using reheat - or afterburner as you called it, that's the American term for it, as it is not allowed overland unless required in an emergency when max thrust is needed. Apparently it scares the locals and make them fall off ladders.

There was one bloke, living somewhere around you, who got so hacked off that he collected loads of big stones, painted them white and put them in his large garden and spelled out - P.. OFF BIGGLES. After that every fast jet in the RAF overflow him to get a piccie. Mine is still in my logbook.

Finally if any vanners want to PM me I can give you numbers to ring to request overflights of significant targets like CG's barn - the boys need practice before going to Afghanistan and the Vale of York is a target rich environment.

Interesting you mention about using reheat overland. Two years ago, a Typhoon used to fly overhead at the same time every day and reheat was used extensively. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

They should know better, but sometimes in the heat of the moment you just go for it and really p... someone off. Next thing you know the "fun police " are knocking on the squadron door and you have some explaining to do, particularly if someone gets hurt or farm animals go berserk. A mate of mine overflew a zoo because he was a bit off track. A keeper was working on an elephant's foot and when the jet went over the elephant kicked the keeper in the balls!! That went on for quite a while. A least in your case you didn't fall off the ladder. Hope the clean-up went well.
