Horse manure

Anyone know the best way to compost horse manure? I can get some free from a stables close to work. I've google'd it but i'm getting a few conflicting reviews. Ive currently 3 big garden waste bags full of manure, do I just keep turning the stuff over or is there a better way of composting it? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Will need a good few months to break down, how soon do you want to use it, it can be worked direct in to the ground as long as your not planting anything, as it can be quite strong.

Are you trying to use the methane produced to run your FL2?

If your putting it on your gardens .......

Horses don't digest seeds and any weeds they have eaten will remain and one day adorn your garden, cows on the other hand do digest them and all is well Thumbs Up

The soil in my garden isnt that good, but I can leave the manure until autumn or winter to break down. I think I willl get some more and leave it to break down. Can I use it as a mulch or does it need to be dug in? Cheers! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I would agree, really depends where the horses have been grazing, but chances are there will be weed seeds in there somewhere.

I'll chance it as my soil isn't very good and the stuff is free. I'll keep hoeing the weeds lol. Didn't realise but horses can produce upto 8 tonnes of the stuff each year! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

My horse produces about a barrow a day Shocked

As already said, it needs to left to break down for a good few months ( it can get very very warm ) but once it's composted it's pretty good and is quite soil like in consistency.
