I'd suggest you drive both and see which you prefer.

As you are looking at a MY13 model, does Australia require you to have a DPF fitted if it's a diesel engine. If so then city driving does not lend itself to DPF vehicles as they need re-generating on a regular basis at a higher speed for a certain amount of time. If you cannot guarantee this in your driving there may be a good chance that you will suffer 'DPF' full messages, of course if you do a mixture of urban/rural driving then like the majority of us the dreaded 'DPF' full message may never occur.

The official LR service interval in Australia is 6 months or 12,000km (whichever comes first) for new vehicles. There have been reasons given for this half-as-long period as the rest of the world having to do with our allegedly poor grade fuels and oils and air filter & pollen filter replacements due to dirt roads and vast open wheat fields or some such nonsense (some people really ought to get out of their UK offices for a bit to get the real picture). What it sounds like is more a gouge on the dealers' behalf to keep them happy, but I'd be a cynic to suggest that, of course.

All the Jap diesels used to be 5000 kms 6 mths and I think the dealers are used to the cash flow structure. If they service them less then they try to charge more. |
