2013 freelander2 TD4 SE(SD4 SE) VS SI4 SE

HI Mate,

I wanna get a advise for my new freelander2.
It's hard to choice model between gasoline and diesel.

I got a quotation for TD4 se & SI4 se. It's almost same price. and SD4 SE is $1000~$2000 more.
In past years, I drove 8000K per year. some friends told SI4 is good to me. its silent & cheap costs for service...
but I never seen who drove si4 se yet.
and wondering abt service costs in Aus. Is diesel more expensive than gasoline.???

Plz give me any feedback!!!
Im happy to hear any advise from youuuuuu

thanks

I'd suggest you drive both and see which you prefer.

Diesel is better for off road work, towing and highway cruising.

Petrol is a more sporty drive and more suited to an urban life.

I have a diesel which only requires a service once a year. About $400 for a minor service and about $800 for a major.

As you are looking at a MY13 model, does Australia require you to have a DPF fitted if it's a diesel engine. If so then city driving does not lend itself to DPF vehicles as they need re-generating on a regular basis at a higher speed for a certain amount of time. If you cannot guarantee this in your driving there may be a good chance that you will suffer 'DPF' full messages, of course if you do a mixture of urban/rural driving then like the majority of us the dreaded 'DPF' full message may never occur.

In this country we love the torque of the diesel but not the DPF fitment and for this reason would love the option of a petrol model, but it's not offered here in Freelander mode.

Just be aware of what your driving habits will be when deciding on petrol or diesel.

The official LR service interval in Australia is 6 months or 12,000km (whichever comes first) for new vehicles. There have been reasons given for this half-as-long period as the rest of the world having to do with our allegedly poor grade fuels and oils and air filter & pollen filter replacements due to dirt roads and vast open wheat fields or some such nonsense (some people really ought to get out of their UK offices for a bit to get the real picture). What it sounds like is more a gouge on the dealers' behalf to keep them happy, but I'd be a cynic to suggest that, of course.

My services so far have been in the high $300s, with the last a week ago being the 48,000 at $540 (included all filters). 2011 HSE SD4.

Hi Alan,

You might want to follow up the servicing thing - i was told by the dealer that i bought my car form that i needed the 12k-6months servicing, even though when i bought it it was clearly advertised as 24k - 12month. Anyway I was having my 84k service in Brisbane (not were i bought the car) they mentioned that it only need to be serviced ever 24k. they still performed the service - just under $500 for a service that wasn't required seemed a little steep - didn't even get a wash. So kind of Censored about the amount of money i have wasted on services that weren't required. I'd also like to point out that most of the services have been around 500 for the services that weren't required and 800-900 for the actual ones.

Cheers

PS - i double checked the servicing schedule for Aus in the service logbook (check yours) and it states that Aus is 24k - 12months

All the Jap diesels used to be 5000 kms 6 mths and I think the dealers are used to the cash flow structure. Smile If they service them less then they try to charge more.
