Why? Different cars are mapped for different reasons. Petrol turbo cars for all out performance, 4x4 diesels for improved drivability and better efficiency. Also for improved low down torque. Mapping a 4x4 is not about getting mega on road performance. Can't be that bad an idea, as LR in effect did this to create the SD4. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I think many people see a chip or remap as a "performance" mod relating to acceleration and hooning around, with a 4x4 the case is different and a map as opposed to a chip offers better drivability especially when towing, for example.

I would say 220 would be achievable easily enough from a mapper who knows what he's doing.

The joys of not having a DFP seriously though, there are disadvantages of not having a DPF, under hard throttle, mine does give off some smoke, where as you won't with a DPF.

All this talk of the engine, I'm sure it can handle it but spare a thought for the transmission.

EY, that's another reason why you need a reputable mapper Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Couldn't agree more. I had a Vectra a few years ago that had disasterous results from using a tuning box, as all it did was overfuel the car.....it very nearly shagged the Auto gearbox!

Tats a very good point, the reputable tuners like the one Big Dave has used and also Superchips like l have used, don't make any real increase in first and second gear to protect the box. A plug in tuning box doesn't offer any form of protection in 1st and second gear.
Absolutely right!
I didn't know you we're on the Vauxhall scene as well. I have been for years. I have one of my Vectra's mapped by 888 in 2006 and it was excellent. I have also bumped into the current owner, it now has 204,000 miles on it, the old engine was replaced at 187000 miles due to a failed cam belt, but 187000 miles on a re-mapped engine is not bad going. I bought the car new and it was mapped at 3000 miles! I still believe that if you look after a car, re-mapping it will not effect reliability. We have a 3.5 ton van at work, 2.5 Diesel, remapped at 2000 miles from 120bhp to 154bhp and now has 230000 on it, service intervals are 18000 it uses less than a litre of oil between services, nothing has ever been done to the Engine, Clutch or Gearbox and returns around 34 to the gallon, which is better than the new one that replaced it, 2.3 Diesel, 150bhp and you struggle to get 30 to the gallon out of it. So much for screwing it down for better emissions. |

Mav makes reference to a discussion with a LR engineer saying mapping to 190 is ok ; when you look at the LR approach to achieve 190 they fit a bigger turbo with water cooled centre bearings its fitted to a stainless exhaust manifold AND they fit a different water cooled EGR valve with vacuum operation .

Those changes are what was made to both the 150 and 190, from the previous 160 TD4.

[/quote] That's not what I said, I said that the LR engineer stated that I would not break it at 190 bhp. The changes LR make to the 190 allow it to pass durability at a significantly higher level than the 160. So where a 160 should be perfectly reliable at 190 if looked after, the 190 should be reliable at around 220/230 if looked after. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather.
