England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Zermatt Silver
No glow plug light my11

Hi y'all, this is my first freelander, having moved from a d3, as it was cold this weekend I tried to get the glow plug light on, I read the kin manual, and ahh it is on the left hand dial lower half , out I goes has a look, and no, it's not there

In its place I have a dsc off light, so I am confused I can't see any place in any of the warning lamp positions that shows a glow plug light.

Any chance one of you more experienced members could illuminate the situation. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

How do you mean "tried to get it to come on"? It'll only come on when it needs to. I've had mine about 5 weeks now and haven't seen my glow plug light come on. Starts first time every time though. Don't worry about it. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Even at -4 this week no sign of a light, turning ignition on looking at the dash board there was no sign of a coil light any where. Then starting no sign of one. As I said I read the manual and where the manual said the coil light is , I have the dsc off warning light. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

The manual bears no relationship as to what lights are on your dash Confused
In the bottom left mine is probably the same as yours, from right to left it is DSC, HDC and DSC OFF and the far left is blank on ignition only.
I have seen the 'glowplug' symbol and I have the delay on cold start conditions, but where in the display I saw it beats me at the mo'
It seems that what we have is dependent on initial software or updates but never the same as in the owners manual, reported on here some of the same model year have a parking brake warning chime if you set off with it on but mine is only visual.

I could definately do with a 'handbrake on' chime on our one. A mere big red warning light is not enough, apparently!!! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I'll have a chat with the suppling dealer. Got to have a chat to see if the slightly notchy gear change is normal. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

Have a read through this;

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic13997.html?highlight=glow+plug

As you will see, I too didn't think I had a glow plug light, then it just popped up and comes on each morning now. (even after being told by a dealer that they had done away with the light!!)

Nice one 'Wiz' Thumbs Up
I forgot about my post in that thread as it shows where my glowplug lit up, it's in the rev counter itself between 5 & 6 thou revs but doesn't show unless needed.

Does the fact that the light shows prove that the plugs are actually working, or just that they ought to be working i.e. it's cold enough?

On my 57 plate 2.2 HSE the light comes on when it's cold (below 0 deg) but I never seem to get much if any delay before cranking even when down to minus 6 deg. Sometimes it seems to struggle a bit to fire up , so i am never sure whether the glow plugs are doing their job or not.

If anyone has any thoughts i would appreciate them.

Pete

The light will only show for the amount of time that the 'glowplugs' should be operating and -6 degrees should be giving about a 3 second delay, so no guarantee that they did work.

But many have said that dependent on model year, some have a delay, some not, some have never seen the light, some have and the light lives in various places in the instrument panel.

Thanks for that.

You say 'should be operating'.

Does the light prove that all the plugs (in my case no longer than 1 - 2 seconds) are actually functioning i.e. not open circuit, or just that the ECU (or whatever) ought to be triggering the plugs?

Having read on other threads about what a hassle it is to get to the plugs I don't want to set off on a wild goose chase if all is actually OK.

Pete

What makes you think that an audible beeping notification would help when a bright red light fails Smile

A Klaxon could be of use though Thumbs Up

No the light does not prove that the glow plugs are working, it just proves that the requirements for operation are met. Use a meter to check operation.( just don't ask me how to do it) Rolling with laughter My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

My light, which as I said never used to come on, came on today with slight delay and it was showing +7 on temp display!! My old 07 plate, used to show glow plug light but hardly ever had much of a delay even at -12. It's all a mystery to me, just as long as it starts, and it always did and does..
