Warranty Problems. My story

Hi, I am new owner of an 07 Freelander 2 and would like to tell my story about the problems with warranties (non LR) in hope it might prevent someone else suffering a similar problem.

7 weeks ago I bought an 07 XS from a main Vauxhall dealer and it came with 12 months warrany which seemed to cover everything. After about a three weeks I started getting the Transmission Fault Reduced Traction error message about once a week and it seemed to clear ok. I searched on here and found possible causes software, battery etc. About 10 days ago the fault started happening every time I drove it and I noticed an issue with the handbrake so I thought time to use the warranty. I rang the warranty company and asked if I could use a Land Rover dealer. That's ok they said so I booked it in last friday. LR found the fault after some checking and said it was the haldex pressure sensor. That's when the problems started. THe warranty company insisted on sending an inspector to check out the job.

When the inspector checked the stored fault codes they said the first occurence of this fault code occured before I bought the car, so they weren't going to cough up. As a result I was STUFFED! LR said my handbrake was ok (don't think so!) but after my car was at LR for 5 days I'm left with a £600+ bill and am a bit cheesed off to say the least.

I wish there was some way I could have checked the fault codes I inherited before I bought my freelander2, but I've had to learn my lesson the hard way.

That sounds nice and easy to solve to me. If the fault was pre-existing, then that one's down to the dealer Thumbs Up The onus is now on the dealer to prove that the fault wasn't pre-existing.

Time to take some professional advice and look to make a claim against the supplying dealer.

You have the evidence you need to go back to the dealer to get it sorted under sales of goods act... Being a main dealer (albeit vauxhall) you shouldn't have many problems.

Good luck Thumbs Up Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

I concur with the lads, but, be prepared to have your patience well and truly tested by the supplying dealer.

So before you address this to them have all your documented evidence in place, and, the business card of your solicitor to hand to them if they start to deny liability. Slide it across the table very slowly saying the immortal word: "You'll be hearing from this gentleman (or lady) very shortly, as I have nothing further to add to today's conversation".

Thanks for all your replies. I will definitely give the dealer a call. The one bright spark was the replacement of the haldex pressure senor cured the transmission fault issue. Thumbs Up

Looking through his posts, he's only posted 4 times - one reply to each of the two threads he's started asking for help with a problem he had with his FL. Might not hear from him again until his next problem. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

I'd noticed that on the d3 forum as well, been on there 4 yrs, for me it's a matter of curtesy, if someone helps by posting why not give feed back. There is a good chance that it may help someone further down the line.

Really irritating, we have a member on here since 2007 albeit with only about 160 posts, but he starts a thread with a question and we all reply but he doesn't bother to answer in that thread anymore Censored .
