Hi

After running out of Fuel with the guage reading 1/4, I have read the various other posts regarding fuel senders etc

but what i don't realy understand is why there are two senders as the two sides of the tank must be connected somehow as there is only one fuel pump at the engine end so can only suck from one place or am i missing something

I figure that what ever connects the two sides has probably blocked or stopped working, leaving one side of the tank full and ther other empty, I am sure there was still fuel in as when i refilled it only took 49 ltrs

there is only one pump which picks up fuel from both sides of the tank.There is no external connection between both halves but the pump picks up the fuel from both sides simultaneously and delivers it into the "pot" from which the fuel is sucked and delivered into the engine only by the "vacuum" side of the HP injection pump.Up to MY10 the in tank pump was running as the ignition was on. From MY11 the pump is operated only on request from CJB in relation from signals from both fuel senders.

So in the thread it would appear there is a pump to transfer fuel from one side to the other, is this so? as I can't find one on the parts list, or is it part of the tank?

how does the pump pull from both sides of tank if one side becomes empty it won't suck fuel from the other as it will suck air first, I guess all being well it will suck evenly , I amd guessing that one of my senders was showing half and the other empty giving a combined 1/4 but the pump then sucked air from the empty side hence the need for some form of interconnection.

Two senders and a transfer pump seems way to complicated compared to a transfer pipe from the bottom of one side to the other with one sender and one pick up?

I'm having similar problems with fuel gauge dropping to zero but there is a patternso perhaps someone can interpret;

Basically when the tank approaches mid level, the fault shows, (i.e. gauge drops to zero) but never when the tank is full. It started about a month ago and now I just fill up and the gauge gradually shows full tank. However I can only operate on a half tank's worth which is just storing up trouble.

So having read all the very useful posts here about the fault, I'm getting to the conclusion that my fault is;

Incorrect reading fuel gauge (Convoluted hose crushed) (Assured VIN H045000)

and my VIN number is earlier that the one quoted above. (07 2.2 auto diesel)

Would I be right? because if I am, its a much simpler fix than new senders etc etc.

If I am right, how do I access area to release the tank hose cable tie? Is it easy for a non-mechanic to get at?

convoluted hose is inside the tank.
You have to remove the tank - and various other bits to get to it.
The labour cost far outweighs the cost of the parts, so if you do have to pay for the labour, change the senders as well. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
