How long is prolonged??

In the navigation booklet, it states "always run the engine during prolonged use
of the touch screen".......How long is too long? I would not have thought it took
that much power Thud

More likely the DVD player under the seat that uses the power. John

Depends on a number of factors, including state of charge of the battery, current drain on the battery from touchscreen and any other electrical components that are drawing on it. There is a battery management system which will shut down electrical systems if the level of charge drops below a certain level, can be as little as 3 minutes but more usually about 10.

Certainly on the Meridian system I have if the cars not run for a couple of days the system shuts down after 3 mins.

It as a big problem last week after picking the car up from the dealer as I wanted to set the thing up re radio/nav/phone and it wouldn't play ball unless I kept the engine running Sad

Isn't it just a timer on the radio, it doesn't mean your battery is going flat, if you turn the radio off then on again it starts the timer again. Most vehicles have a timer on the radio so you can listen to them for twenty minutes or so without the ignition be in on. Cannot see that charging the battery will change it.

Edit. Found this posted by Alex.

OP was asking about touchscreen (sat nav) rather than radio.
