What's your thoughts/experience of pattern part side steps?

As above. I'm talking about the sets on eBay for around the 」150 mark. Any particular sellers to avoid? One seller sells a 'fitting tool' for 」17 that they say is required when fitting these steps.

So who's fitted these? Anyone? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

If you want to fit there is some other threads in the. Maintenance and Modification section, fitting is similar to the fitting of the Tubes. Which ever ones you get the fitting of is pretty much the same.

Ive fitted aftermarket side steps (mine were 」200 but cant remember who from. Will have to check the invoice)

The rivnut fitting tool, while not absolutely essentail, makes it a whole lot easier. It can be done with some long bolts and nuts and washers, but the tool makes it a 5 min job.

There are lots of posts on side steps, but in case you have missed them. I have had pattern side steps for 3 years. Two years on my old FL2 and then refitted onto my new one. Easy to fit as they use holes already under the car, and only a couple of hundred quid.

You want to check that you haven't got a genuine set of side steps with a dodgy FL2 bolted to it! Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Slightly off-topic, but those who think side steps offer no protection, I beg to differ.

Coming through High Barnet this afternoon, narrow gap between parked cars either side...I am already making the move, when BINT in Fiat 500 thinks that she will squeeze through in her Dinky toy coming the other way....I've felt it, heard it, albeit at a relatively modest 20mph...however....she stopped (amazing in London!) as did I...nett result of damage is white paint from her lower door on the alloy part of my side step (which rubbed off in situ), and a nice silver/grey-ish line down her O/s from stem to stern....she tried to argue about liability, however I had a colleague in the car who had witnessed her recklessness, and I said I would call the Met if she wanted to take it further. She declined, got back in her car and drove off muttering some foreign language, presumably abuse (or Polish!). On the basis that she might claim racism, sexism or any other "ism" as a mitigating circumstance, I reported it to Warwickshire's finest this evening when I got home, just to cover myself...moral of the story...maybe not with every oncoming d1ckhead out there, but with certain nutters it certainly does provide some help in terms of avoiding potential damage....therefore I have to recommend them! Foraging near Gaydon....
