2011 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black
Unable to clear "Oil Service at Main Dealer" messa

I have just had my Freelander 2 2011 serviced by my local garage, after getting a quote from the Stealership of £469 for the second service (daylight robbery!!!). I made sure they followed exactly the LandRover service schedule and used genuine parts and correct oil etc.. Problem being they reset the service indicators only to find the "Oil Service at Main Dealer" message would not reset. I took the car to another local garage who had a Landrover gizmo to connect to the obdII connector, problem was it would not reset the message!!! he said it was most likely due to my car requiring the latest version of software of which he can not get as Land Rover do not release it for a couple of years!!! (Sounds like they are trying to force you to use the Main Dealer!!! surely this is not allowed!!!) So I tried all my local Main Dealers of which as you can guess all said "Sorry can`t help as you didnt have it serviced by us!!)...... Not happy. I even rang the Dealer in Salisbury where I purchased the car and was told they could reset it , just pop in. So I made the 34 mile journey only to be told they made a mistake and could not help..... what a way to run a business, they will not be on my list for my next Freelander upgrade..... Where can I get this message reset.. anyone know of anywhere near. I live in Hungerford Berks... as you can guess I`m not happy at all. We also rang Landrover head office direct and got given a load of bull saying the independant garage should have the correct tools to reset the message....

I currently have that message too, mine is going into the garage on Wednesday for a new seat base, the message will be reset then, there are two messages, one can be reset by a sequence using the start button and odometer trip button, the message in the central display can only be dealer reset.

It is strange that the dealer you purchased it from said they cannot help you or did they want a fee for doing it?

Almost sounds like sour grapes from them as you went to a different garage, I wonder if a hard reset would clear the message ? Maybe another member can help.

Ps, use the reply button bottom left of the post rather than reply with quote, keeps it neat and tidy Thumbs Up

I have found that loyalty to the dealers can be worth while. I'm not saying you don't have to pay more, but when you need a little help or advice etc, they have always been there.

Dealer oil service due message can only be reset by a LR Dealer or one who has appropriate diagnostic equipment. Hard reset will not reset message.

Yes it has to be a dealer, personally I cannot see how they can refuse if you offer to pay for it to be done Confused and the dealer that you bought your car off well it does sound like sour grapes. Censored
Seems like they have flagged you up on their nationwide system now.

This must have been introduced on 2011 models. After my 1st service at a LR delear the oil service message appeaered. I went back and they tried to clear it using the buttons on the dash. However, as we now know this does not work. They then took it to the computer and that cleaerd it.
My subsequent service was done by an independent LR specialist and they have the equipment to clear it.
It is just another "con" to get us all to go to main dealers for servicing.
Presumably, other than the irritation of the message every time you start up nothing else happens. I recall on a BMW I had that if you didnt get the car serviced and the message reset then it eventually would not start!

Oil Service due message is linked to the number of DPF regeneratiion cycles the vehicle goes through. DPF became standard on all diesel models in UK from MY2011 which went on sale in September 2010.

My software on my diag kit is showing a function for oil reset and DPF reset. For freelander 2 and I am nearer too you than SAlisbury. By the way a useless dealer. I haven't used the oil reset function but your welcome to be a guinea pig. The kit is very advanced and was written for dealer level. Very Happy

That screen looks like the one I have at work. Is it an Autodiagnos one? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Brazilian tip:

1. Turn on the ignition switch
2. Open the hood
3. Open the driver door
4. Note: Manintenance resetting information is not displayed on the instrument cluster. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, and brake pedal, and hold for 60s.
5. Turn off the ignition switch
6. Turn on the igntion switch and check whether manintenance information is cleared
7. If maintenance information is not cleared, repeat the procedure.

This message is based on number of days since last service, nothing to do with DPF regenerations. 11 GS Bali Blue
07 GS FL2. Usually muddy. Gone
Numerous LRs since 1963

if a main dealer resets your service message without actually doing the service the car then they are guilty of fraud.

they would quickly lose their landrover franchise if caught doing this.

Dead right I'm afraid!
Can't really see what the fuss is about anyway?
The garage did an acceptable service at a price you were happy with and you have a stamp in the service book plus receipt so that should be good enough.
Should the garage have mentioned to you that they couldn't do the reset or did they just forget to mention it??
