Just thought I would dig this thread up in light of it's release on Blu-Ray and DVD. I bought the Blu-Ray (of course) which comes with a DVD copy anyway and it is now installed on my iPhone 5 should I find 2hr 20mins spare at work Laughing

Watched it Saturday and it has to be the best Bond movie for me. Craig is epic as Bond but the quality of the acting from Dench and Bardem deserves applause. Great supporting actors such as Ben Whishaw as Q and Ralph Fiennes as Mallory.

Good behind the scenes content too and one can only praise the main man Sam Mendes Bow down Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

There is a behind the scenes bit about the opening sequence where Sam Mendes explains the rationale behind it. I quite liked it. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

You lot must be loaded to pay cinema prices Shocked

it won't be the same as watching at the cinema.

it may save you money but you're not experiencing the complete viewing sensation, shame really because it's such a brilliant film.

The Cinema Experience

We went to see it at Vue in Livingston (maybe our biggest mistake!).
It was our first trip to the cinema in years. We even treated ourselves to the bigger seats.
The first problem was the 45 minutes of adverts before the film started, most of which were about Skyfall.
Then a couple of pigs (they might have been people but hard to tell in the dark) sat behind us with a silo of popcorn, olympic size swimming pool of coke and a pick 'n' mix bag full of sweets wrapped in foil that was obviously designed for extra rustle.
The noise was awful. We ended up moving to the end of the row but we could still hear them.
They eventually finished but the chap then decided to clear his throat every 20 seconds. As he seemed to have a cold it was even more disgusting than the eating.
It totally ruined the experience.
We watched it again at the weekend on BT Vision and it was much better. I doubt we'll go back to the cinema again. Besides, at home you can watch it in your pants. They get all upset if you do that at the cinema...
All you need is a big telly and some form of surround sound system and you're laughing.

I don't agree there Iain, at the cinema, you might have the big screen, fancy sound system to fill the room, but is it a better viewing experience,? Maybe because the system is bigger and better than what you have at home, but then you have the annoying neighbour sat in the seats surrounding you

A cinema is just a large Screen, My Plasma at home which I watched it on is large enough at 47", I have a dedicated surround sound amp in 5.1, bass speaker that will vibrate your bowels if i crank it up, everything that a cinema has to offer, but I have real leather sofa and a beer fridge Laughing

I dont sit there thinking this would be so much better if i was watching it on a 50ft screen, the screen size is unimportant, i look at how a movie is filmed, the actors the story line and the overall feeling i get after watching it

I also have a 37" TV in my conservatory again linked up to my Mac Mini and this also has fuly surround sound system linked up, but with this I can also crank up the volume so the others in the house can't hear it at all, so late night movie sessions don't effect them when in bed. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

"vibrate your bowels"

If that doesn't sell the home cinema experience nothing will. Very Happy
I think I need to upgrade my surround sound kit.
I'll have to visit some hifi shops and enquire which ones jiggle your giblets.

I have a Onkyo 7.1 Surround Amp and a Boston Acoustic Soundwave, very good for the money

Going to run a couple more surround speakers to get it from 5.1 to 7.1 and i also want to run some speakers to its Zone 2, so i can be watching TV and have what ever playing on the second zone, outside Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I am a fairly big cinema goer but that's cos I can't wait to see the big films as opposed to thinking it is a superior experience. Pros and cons to everything but never had a complaint about odeon at derby. My odeon card coupled to student discount reduces the prices nicely. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Npinks.....

... a proper amp and speakers is definitely the way to go.
Sadly, my tv is in a corner and because of seating positions, getting the rear speakers in the right place is next to impossible. Not only that but as we had a new carpet laid last year I'm not allowed to entertain the idea of repositioning them.
I was thinking about a soundbar. Some of the more expensive ones seem to do a good job, the downside being the cost.

Doc, I think the cinema itself can make a huge difference. Some of these multiplexes are horrible. Small screens and noise from the cinema next door. Remember the days when all cinemas had seating on impossible steep banking and you watched a film through a pall of cigarrette smoke? Those were the days.
My inlaws live in Pinxton and I think they use the same cinema you mentioned. They like it although they've also had films ruined by noisey folk.

my Tv's in the corner too, so i have had to have my speakers not in the best place too, the Right & Left Speakers too close to the tv, I would have liked a little more distance from the centre speaker

My rears are in each corner of the room, which intersect the seating position of the sofa, the newer 2 speakers will be placed directly behind the sofa, but one on one wall and one on the other slight offset to spread the rear surround more

I have oak flooring so speaker running was a huge issue, so one had to be run along a skirting board and up the door frame in DLine Trunking and the other outside in piping and then back inside to get it past the fireplace

Funny how I need to run some more cabling and suddenly the room needs its wallpaper stripping, re-plastering and then redecorating Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
