I think we have very different opinions regards this time of year. I congratulate you on your effort to help others, but you also hope and prey for the very weather which necessitates your help.
As for the Duke, I actually quite like its quirky design, as I do the Kuga and the Kia/Hyundai 4x4's. it is easy to see how Land rover drivers get an arrogant reputation.

I do hope for snow but that's because I have always liked the stuff generally, not because I have a burning desire to see people in trouble and then march to the rescue. I am certainly mindful of the negative effects however and hence I got involved in the 4x4 response group.

We LR owners might be king of the hill in abilities but we have been in recent years, the laughing stock of reliability so you can't win em all I guess. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Doesnt really matter what tyres you have on the car or drive system in snow and ice conditions, if you go down a hill and brake to stop nothing is any good, the cars momentum will take you wherever it happens to be facing, most people dont have any idea how to drive in bad weather in this country, indeed some who have passed their test last year will never have been faced with the situation before,
The cars these days are sold with ABS EDS ABC DCE 4X4 and folk buy them thinking they will be protected against all eventuality, touch the brakes and on ice nothing works, unless you happen to have studded tyres..

Totally agree Thumbs Up Just because I have the best compact 4x4 in terms of abilities and winter tyres, that doesn't mean I don't have to drive to the conditions. Upon seeing the steep icy decent where I soon discovered the crashed Nissan, I deployed HDC and went down steady as possible. A passer by would have looked and thought it was far too slow but that's possibly the approach that led the lady driver of the Nissan to end up through the wall. Too fast for the conditions. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Aintree Green

It's good that people help with their own vehicles and I'm sure it makes you feel good...but it is really responsibility of the NHS to give their staff suitable vehicles to do their job - that's what we pay our hefty taxes for.

I also agree with others that gloating about the misfortune of others in atrocious weather conditions is not pleasant and nothing to feel proud of.

Shocked

I do agree with you on the Kia/Hyundai 4X4's. Thumbs Up The styling is modern and more noticeable on the road. Also, they are good value cars made with good quality materials IMHO.

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Based on my own personal experience of friends, family, colleagues, suppliers and customers - there are a huge number of people who look forward to snow - and the more of it the better. And I doubt many (if any) drive around rescuing people when it happens. They just enjoy the event for what it is and don't give much of a thought to those who are stranded or vulnerable.

Kudos to the good doctor for helping out - and it is no sin if he enjoys the snow and/or helping out.

Yep it was a Freelander that took out a lamp post and a large section of my dry stone wall and ended up 20 yards down the field, and the driver was cut out before the car was recovered. A two tonne sledge on ice is a two tonne sledge on ice all the winter tyres and electronic aids aids going will not help you a jot once you exceed available grip on a steep descent. The dry stone waller has done a brilliant job so far but on Monday when it had snowed several cars were in danger of taking it out again, and there were a good few kerbed their alloys including a Freelander 2 who could not make it up the hill and was sliding backwards Shocked

best snow driving technique is use your arseometer -if it twitches don't try it Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

All 4 wheels were spinning on the hill so it was 4x4 version. Must have been summer tyres I guess.

All four wheels at once Question out of roughly twenty versions on the Joke, only two are offered in 4wd, and they are both in the top two, your saw a very rare one if it was 4wd

Agreed ad210358. My thoughts when I first saw it on the hill were that it must be 2WD. I guess it must have been the top end model to have 4WD. Whatever price that would be.... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
