Nissan Juke/Joke in trouble

On Wednesday night when the snow hit, I went on a call out for Peak 4x4 to take some nurses to some elderly patients. I was in the Ashover area and the ungritted country roads were bad.

A Vauxhall Astra was stuck on a hill and the mighty 4x4 Juke/Joke pulled around it but then slithered its ugly face into the gutter, thus blocking the road. I had to wait for the Astra to reverse back so that I could get past and with no fuss I duly ploughed up the hill.

Unfortunately, things got worse for the Juke/Joke. On my return journey back down the hill, the Juke/Joke had gone down the hill, failed to make the turn and had crashed into the stone wall! Only the rear quarter of the car was still on the road. I had gone down steady with HDC as it was steep. The woman driver was fine and police were on the way and by the time I had finished the house calls and passed by the hill again, the tow truck had been and it was gone.

So, unless you buy winter tyres, the Juke/Joke is as bad in snow as it is ugly. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

"The Woman was Fine" do you really think so, she's just wrecked her Car and your Gloating about Winter Tyres . she's proably devastated at what has happened ! She has the Police to deal with, insurance and probably the owner of the wall. Yes we all know the benefits of Wintre Tyres and how good the the Fl2 is in the snow. But as usual you seem to delight in other people's misfortune. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Get a grip toeknee Rolling Eyes

I help people on my own time not revel in their misfortune. By fine, I meant not so much as a bruise etc, I pulled over to ask and she said it was a slowish accident and was just glad it was just the car. Would have waited with her if I wasn't tied up on this job. Lets face it, going too fast down a steep hill in a FL2 with winter tyres would still result in smashing through a wall.

It was the fact it got stuck trying to get past the Astra that made me want to post about it. A Nissan X-Trail on standard fit tyres for example would have got around the Astra.

This was a post to poke fun at an ugly car not at the woman. My post could have gone into more detail to explain that but try not to assume things and jump to conclusions. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

All 4 wheels were spinning on the hill so it was 4x4 version. Must have been summer tyres I guess. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Personally i have no sympathy with people who go out in snow with vehicles that cant cope with the conditions. Usually the same people who never check tyre pressures levels etc.If its bad weather you have the choice not to go out.The last snow here a guy got shirty with me after he asked me to pull his car out of snow because i hadn't a tow rope ? Where was his ?

I see what you are saying SYFL2 and I think toeknee is picking up on posts where I have mentioned laughing at stuck BMW's in snow. I did find one such incident funny because I recognised the car and driver as the guy who undertakes folks and drives like he is king of the road in fine weather, he got a comeuppance.

The reality is though that it is mostly forum banter and recently I pulled over when I saw a 3 series that could not get off the drive and was partly blocking the road. Rather than laugh, I offered to tow him (insured for such things). He declined but expressed gratitude for the offer.

I have gone out in some truly horrendous driving conditions to help folks via peak 4x4 and on Wednesday, one old biddy was so worried the nurses would not come, she pressed the panic button.

Back on topic, I just think that as standard, the Juke 4x4 is terrible both to look at and in snow. Given the choice, I would prefer say a Kuga (assuming they are in the same price range). LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Can't say I would want a Kuga either but if there were only 2 cars in the world the Juke would definately not be on my list.

So you ha ve no sympathy with people who have to get to work, say like my wife who's a nurse, yes on a number of occasions I've taken her to work when conditions are bad, but she's also had to drive in the snow to get to work, if I've been away with work.

It's not that simple, is she and others like her all decided to stay at home because of the conditions then who'd look after the patients, gritt the roads, put out the fires

Oh by the way she doesn't check her tyre pressure , I do ! The same time I when I

I'm really fed up with this kind of post. Yes there are people out there without winter tyres, they probably can't afford them but still need to get to work.
Nothing I like better than the police saying "don't go out unless absolutely necessary", everybody's idea of necessary is different. And of course the police themselves went out in the bad weather to get to work......to tell others not to!!
Not all employers are easy going and of course if the gritter drivers don't go out, then we are all stuck. Public transport workers, nurses, doctors, shop workers...it goes on.
Having a Freelander doesn't give us the right to be the only ones on the road.

I never claimed it did wizking. People make necessary journeys in whatever car they have. I just poked some fun at the hideous Nissan Juke. By the looks of things, a simple Ford Focus estate would be on a par in winter performance terms and yet more practical, I really cannot see any advantages to one.

As per my follow on posts above, I use my own time to help nurses for example whose cars cannot get through, to get to patients. So rather than pull over and laugh at someone and boast about how superior the FL2 is, I use its abilities to help folks. The odd stuck BMW that in normal conditions is driven to overtake and intimidate other drivers is somewhat amusing. You never know, such a comeuppance might teach them a lesson........(doubt it though come summer!) LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I think we have very different opinions regards this time of year. I congratulate you on your effort to help others, but you also hope and prey for the very weather which necessitates your help.
As for the Duke, I actually quite like its quirky design, as I do the Kuga and the Kia/Hyundai 4x4's. it is easy to see how Land rover drivers get an arrogant reputation.

Doesnt really matter what tyres you have on the car or drive system in snow and ice conditions, if you go down a hill and brake to stop nothing is any good, the cars momentum will take you wherever it happens to be facing, most people dont have any idea how to drive in bad weather in this country, indeed some who have passed their test last year will never have been faced with the situation before,
The cars these days are sold with ABS EDS ABC DCE 4X4 and folk buy them thinking they will be protected against all eventuality, touch the brakes and on ice nothing works, unless you happen to have studded tyres..
