Re: Oil Consumption

I own a 58 plate plate 2.2 td4s (none dpf). Covered 66k. Uses around 1/2 litre between services or every 8k. Landy has now gone.

It's a good result for the FL2 engines, my two previous Xtrails were a little thirsty and required monthly top ups but nothing like some of my older cars that required a 5 litre can to be carried at all times.

I guess tolerances, machining and materials have improved greatly alongside oil improvements.

Ah, them were the days. I've had more cars than I can remember that were like that Big Cry

I too have a small collection of 1lt bottles of oil, don't seem to get any left with the car after services anymore.
Never had to put any in between services either.

Considering these:
- during service, a common good sense is to fill with oil up to the upper mark (max)
- between lower (min) and upper (max) marks are 1.2 (gasoline) or 1.5 liters (diesel)
Then the second choice in this poll is valid or not?
Some people could say that even if the level drops from max to min between the services, then it can be said that there is no need to top up... And that means over a liter of oil.
Am I wrong?

Yes and No Laughing
The poll asks about 'consumption' not 'is there a need to fill up', if it has dropped from the 'max' to 'min' then it has consumed the oil. Thumbs Up
