Rumble from the rear

Hello Folks

For the last few weeks I have noticed an annoying rattle/ rumble that appears to be coming from the rear axle area. It is undetectable outside the car, but noticeable when idling (the engine...not me).
I thought it might be the spare wheel or jack, but thats all secure and wrapped, and the best comparison would be an exhaust heat shield rattle, but theres nothing loose I can find and as I say, you can't hear it outside.
Its loudest when the engine is warm, and I stop in traffic or put the car in reverse, and if I increase revs very slightly it stops.
Off to the dealer on Wednesday (its still in warranty) but I wondered if you had any advice as no doubt they will say they can't find anythhing wrong. _________________

My guess would be a loose baffle inside the exhaust.

I will let you know what happens at the dealers. It wasn't there when I bought the car in July, but then again neither were all the door trim rattles ! _________________

Update...

The dealership spent yesterday trying to isolate the noise, which they described as 'buzzing', but couldn't.

When the throttle is blipped very slightly it stops momentarily.

I met with the service manager this morning for a test drive, and on start up the noise was very clear, so to give the dealership their dues they spent today removing and replacing the exhaust and various other parts under the car then refitting everything back together. The noise is significantly reduced, and almost undetectable, so if it stays like that I will live with it.
If it gets louder, they are happy to have it back in. Sorry I can't tell you what it was, but neither can the LR techies ! _________________

If it's a buzzing/rattling it sounds like it could be a loose screw/nut/fastner, so this will be a nightmare to find but it you can hear it inside the car but not outside I would start there, climb in the back and touch various nuts Shocked panels etc this may or may not find the culprit and if not you can start on the outside of the car, this should give you hours of harmless fun over the coming weekends or you can just turn the radio up.

My money is still on a loose baffle inside the exhaust - the fact that it is more noticeable on start-up convinces me even more as parts inside the exhaust expand and therefore vibrate less when hot. This was a fairly common complaint many years ago during my apprenticeship in a main dealership and the 'accepted' fix was to bash the granny out of the silencers with a lump hammer!
