[quote="Kal-El"]Yes yes, I know it is incorrect use of TR but I had to try it out on the road properly just once. quote]

Yes Very Happy the instructor LRE Coniston Cold told me it was a good way to get a move on in town traffic so as far as i'm concerned it's a correct method Rolling with laughter

Only done it once from the lights, won't be doing it very often as stopping it in the same distance on ATR tyres is the bit that worries me 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I don't profess to know all about sand mode but I think it sharpens throttle response and alters traction control setup so that it puts the power down very quickly. It also engages 50:50 power split LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Sand Mode

Use on soft and predominantly dry, yielding sandy ground, such as beaches, dunes and sand deserts. Sand Program could also be used in areas of deep gravel.

Engine Management System - maximum throttle response for given accelerator pedal travel.
Automatic gearbox- later up changes and earlier down changes to transmit maximum power to the wheels.
Electronic centre/rear differentials/electronic centre coupling - high preloading to maximise traction to all wheels. Locking torque maintained at higher speeds.
Hill Descent Control - off unless manually selected.

Despite what LRE Instructors may say about Sand mode being a good way to get a move on in town traffic, it is not a correct method, albeit it might be fun to do it occasionally.

The only place I've used sand mode is when I've actually been in soft beach sand, but it was still pretty quick! Mr. Green CAR HISTORY

I presume command shift makes more of it than a manual box as you just select 1st gear and then just bump the lever up through the "sports ratios" until the next set of lights and stationery traffic is looming large and your bottle goes ...... 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
