United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver
Things to look out for

Hi everyone, just picked up my Freelandrover 2 GS 2009 TD4 with 17000 miles, after many years of happy Disco 2 ownership.

As im sticking with Land Rover (for the last 25 years (Series 3 then Disco 2 now Freelandy 2) they always have the "usual" problems.

Anything I can look forward to with my new one? I have read about the rear diff having problems and what is the DPF? what does it do and it says if I get an error message about it, take it for a long run up a motorway?

Thanks

Particulate filter dpf catches and burns exhast soot, needs heat to properly work hence the need for occasional long runs, you could do the long run stationary, revving in your drive but it would be dull and the neighbours would probably throw sharp things at you.

Rear diff can fail £500 ish, whine noise shows failure
Clutch can fail 1000 ish slipping etc, often related to the dreaded caravan At work

Yes as Dave says, are you certain you have a DPF, if you are unsure then ask the dealer to look underneath or search your VIN number. It was available as an option but why anyone would tick that box is beyond me.

Nah you won't have one. For peace of mind wipe your finger in the exhaust (no comments please!) if it comes out black (as you'd expect) you don't have one. If its clean you do.

The DPF catches soot, so no smoke out the back. But once it catches it you need to drive a mid-high revs to burn off the collected soot.

Thanks guys, glad to know I should'nt have a DPF, i shall give my pipe a wipe and check Shocked

BTW are most people here from Yorkshire! Rolling with laughter

No dreaded caravan, but dreaded wife...... probably same effect on clutch (hope she does'nt read this.... love you darling)

Any reason why the diff goes? Not planning on going too off-road.

Im fine for a year as it comes with a Land Rover warranty.

If you have one 'big thing' then it will be the catalytic converter, but if you have two 'big things' then after the 'cat' will be the DPF.

The 'cat' is inclined from the manifold and the 'DPF' is horizontal and parallel to the floor with small pipes attached.

Hi, you will enjoy the car, if it does not already have them, the best £100 odd quid you can spend is a set of genuine mud flaps, it's amazing how much crap they keep off the car. then the next best £100 is up-rating all 4 headlight bulbs, after that you have a pretty damn good motor with the two major flaws ironed out 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

You won't have DPF if it is a UK spec model built in 06/07. Manual will cover more than one market and will often mention things that are not fitted to UK models but are to other Countries covered by the same Manual.

The smoke's not necessarily noticeable, only very rarely in certain operating conditions and then it's only in the headlights of the car behind when it's dark. We're not talking steam locomotives here, or audi's from about 4 or 5 years ago! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
