the car won't know it has bigger brakes so there is nothing to change systems wise.

Hmm... I wonder...
The brake master cylinder is the same. So the travel of its piston. Therefore, the volume of brake fluid expelled on one full push will be the same, right?

But the volume of multi pot caliper is considerable bigger.
So for the same pumped volume, the travel of all 4 pistons inside one caliper will be much smaller...
The same with the pumped volume when the ABS motor is working...
Are you sure it will be OK?

In my opinion, at least the master cylinder should be changed too, if not together with the ABS system.
Of course, I am referring to 343mm, 4 pots conversion.
Am I missing something?

No, you won't need to change anything else when upgrading front discs and pads. the standard master cylinder will cope perfectly well. The ABS system won't even come into it, unless the front upgrade is really big and this will cause the ABS toi cut in as the rear's will be triggered too early.

I had this when I had my Zafira GSi, I put on 345mm front discs with AP Racing 4 piston calipers and they were great but the ABS cut in very early as a result of big front brakes wanted to bite hard, and the rear end going light under heavy braking causing the ABS to cut in.

So by upgrading the rears from standard 270mmrears to VXR 292mm discs and pads solved the problem and the ABS was fine again.

This problem would never be an issue on FL2 TD4 with i6 brakes though as although they are bigger, they are not big enough to cause an issue.

I had gone from 284mm discs on my Astra to 325mm discs and calipers from the VXR. Nothing else needs to be changed.

True, but don't let this deter anything, I have never been charged extra for upgrading brakes. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Bali Blue

Has anyone managed this yet? Green Oval have recently replaced my rear discs and pads and told me that my front brakes need doing in about 3-4000 miles. So thinking this might be an option at the time, would love to know if anyone has followed up and done this?

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Please do be carefully about mixing brake components. The factory engineers and their brake suppliers will have balanced the surface areas of the front brakes equipment and the rear brake equipment and the master cylinder and ABS to give excellent braking with a front to rear brake bias.
If you look at other car manufacturers you will usually find that bigger front brakes will need different master cylinders and different rear calipers.
If you haven't got a team of engineers and a test track just don't do it!
Please stick to fitting at most a set of aftermarket drilled discs and pads from a reputable supplier
