John.
Know where you're coming from, and you are 100% right and i wouldn't argue with you.
I'm just sounding off because if you ring and offer your help, if you're not an "accredited" "supplier", you get fobbed off.
Time to put the subject to bed?

Came down this lane today were I work in Huddersfield, when I came down it had 4 inches of snow covering it. I was very impressed with my FL2. I used the DSC button and it didnt slip or slide once. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I just got back from a week's skiing in Morzine, France. There was huge amounts of snow, and our chalet was up a tortuous series of narrow hairpins. The FL2 sailed up with no hassles, and HDC'd down.

The only odd thing that flashed up on the dash was a message saying: Reduced Performance... mind you -19 was indicated on the temp display Smile

Then, of course, on the way back, we cruised at 90ish all through France, 4 up and packed with luggage. Even managed to get 28mpg out of it. Brilliant.

Had a play tonight on the snow covered steep roads on the estate, venturing were cars had not dared, not even a shudder or flashing light to say traction was lost Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

With an old Range Rover "a tow for £10" is hardly covering his fuel cost

Jak's comment about them melting to the tar wasn't far off. It was 48.5C (around 118F) here in Western Sydney the other day. And you guys are talking about snow driving. Very Happy

I hear you Mike. I wouldn't mind a play in the snow!

bish - you should join the local 4x4 response group if you want to be able to help out - www.yorkshire4x4response.org will get you there!

The group costs £10 a year to join and another £10 deposit on your ID badge and High Vis vest. They pay you back expenses at 45p per mile for any callout milage incurred and also provide 3rd Party insurance in case you damage someones car towing them out of a snow drift!

They will as JST mentions want to check your documents, but in my case a member liason person came to my house to do that! They need to check that you are legally able to work in the UK (UK Passport), that your car is insured for volunteer use (Insurance Cert checked yearly!) and thats it - the Yorks group do not CRB check everyone only a small number of members who may need to deal with vulnerable people one to one.

They then have a bunch of basic training that they provide to you and you have to prove your basic competence in off-road driving, map reading, etc and they arrange excersices and training events through the year for new members to get these skills ticked off.

I have joined up just before xmas, not been called out in this spell of weather but guess that is due to being the new kid and not having passed all their basic skills tests etc. I did however end up towing the daughter of my next door neighbour out of the way after she got a pucture and couldn't safely jack the car up on the snow and ice!

Thanks Yorkshire.
Sent them an email before I read your reply, and am just waiting for someone to contact me.
Good that they give you off road training, as that's a brilliant addition to anyones driving skills.
How long did it take for them to contact you?
