HDC is selected by default in Mud and Ruts. In all other TR settings it has to be selected manually by pressing the HDC button.
AsTandemman said it works in 1st and Reverse and will also work in 2nd (despite what the screen display might indicate) providing you are going slow enough.

The other thing with hill decent which can be annoying for following motorist, is that the brake lights are illuminated as the car applies the brakes. Which means they can be flashing on and off like Xmas tree lights

Now that i didn't know. That would be very annoying if I were following one unless it was on the LRE.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

I've been granted permission to use the Freelander for work this week as the beemer is in it's winter position parked on top the hill on the cross roads, for 25 years years all the locals have left ANY two wheel drive car there rather than risk the treacherous climb out of the valley, what is more worrying this year is that there is a Disco 4 and an Ewok parked with them this year Big Cry . The Freel2 has been brilliant in the last week, stick it in drive, select GGS when necessary and off I go. It was surreal driving into Bradford this morning the world has stayed at home! I must admit trusting HDC comes hard after 25 years of banging the Defender box into into low

The only problem with the snow is it has fetched the " Lets off road !" characters out in their dumper truck tyred sheds, tearing up the footpaths and bridleways because they can't be arsed to get a map and see what a legal right of way is 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Martyn. The other thing that I can't believe is that there are no requests for assistance around here from the Police or Ambulance service for responsible 4x4 drivers. Planning is as usual rubbish. I live at top of valley, but have Vredesteins on and all of our aids to helps us, plus sheadloads of years driving experience. Makes you wonder. Question

To be honest Bish It's a difficult call whether or not I would even offer a tow nowadays. Two years ago In the Defender I got stuck up to the axles and was teetering on the edge of a fall off Bradford Old Road trying to help recover a lady and her child in a Peugeot 306 who had in the middle of a blizzard decided to come to the Old Red Lion for swimming lessons ! 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Donuts and power slides were dealt out with a big grin on our faces

Martyn. Wont tow anybody out as i won't risk smashing my car up because a brainless individual who puts themselves at risk like you described defies belief. Would however give them a lift to a safe place.
However ferrying around people who have urgent needs or requirements is a much different thing. My daughter is a community nurse and is having to walk her patch. Why won't I help you ask, because they haven't officially asked for it, and i wouldn't be covered. If she gets into dire straits however, I'll fire up the snow cruncher and get there.

Natwest/Landy - I live between Stroud and Chalford up in the hills near Rodborough/Bownham Common. All main roads clear but the lanes are untouched except where residents have gritted. The Commons look like snow fields but great fun is being had by kids and dog walkers. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

The only way a government service will ask for help is if you belong to a recognised group and all paperwork is correct between the two parties, ie insurance, liability and that your vehicle is roadworthy.
They will not risk a claim from individuals offering help.

That's why I haven't offered any help.
Gone are the days when we mucked in.
Sorry but it's look after no. 1 now.

Roads downunder are also a little treacherous at the moment. In some towns out bush, the danger is that your thongs get stuck in the melting bitumen road surface when you step out of the car!
