Freelander 2 Automatic Gearbox Questions

Hi all,
I have a 58 plate Freelander 2 HSE Auto with 77k on the clock. When i have the car in Drive and go up through the gears i sometimes hear a noise, sometimes its loud and sometimes quieter. It sounds like air gushing or a short of scraping noise out but only last for a couple of seconds. This happens each time i drive but is intermittent. I also have a bit of drag back when the gears change, unless i put my foot to the floor. Any comments and help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you. Seems normal then, although very annoying. It feels like there is something not right with the gearbox because of this noise, feels like its straining. Don't get this on my mates BMW or Merc.

I had a similar thing going on with mine but had already read up on others reporting this strange noise
but wasn't totally convinced mine had the same problem as i experienced a loss of drive at times between gears also felt at time the gear box was a bit confused.com in what it was meant to be doing and when so for piece of mind i had it checked out.
It turned out it was the best thing ive done as once it was checked by a local auto gearbox specialist fault codes had been logged

I recall there were a few more but unable to find all the paper work now.
I rember he mentioned the noise you are talking about,Sure he said it was the valves spinning in the valve block inside the gearbox as they were in opperation. This was sorted in the later models with a revamped block and valves (groves in the block and valves or something like).
As said in other posts a common thing but no problem.
In my case unfortunately things were a lot more indepth,Turned out i had a loss of pressure in the system resulting in numerus problems inside the box Big Cry Big Cry .
knackered valve block
Clutch slip/flare
Debris in the box from the clutch plates
In the end we decided to just have the box reconed using the new type valve block along with a torque converter.Looking over the paper work we have now done over 20k,she drives like a dream with no strange noises or slipping.

Thanks for the response. I don't get loss of drive between gears, just a bit of lag. Do you think i should take the car to LR to get it checked out or to a Gearbox specialist?

I do remember while browsing through 'Alex's' gallery there was a software update (transmission re-calibration) for auto's 2007-2010 that suffered from slip/flare.

Perhaps it's worth checking if this was done.
