Freelander up a hill

Went to a Point to Point today cars were parked all accross a large grass field, which was more mud than grass and on a steep incline decided to use the exit at the top of the large field(more fun than heading down), all to the amusement of a group outside a Defender laughing as i stopped after only 40ft up the hill, i only stopped to engage grass gravel snow, and then sailed straight up the wet muddy field with no problem at all amazing for a car on road bias tyres with 25000 miles on them, freelanders are amazing on wet muddy grass so impressed with my Freelander. Very Happy Very Happy

Ive just got a manual S model, no fancy knobs to twirl, would my car go up a similar hill with out a problem or is there a nack to it? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Yes, Stevie it probably would, GGS mode dulls throttle response, limits wheel slip angle etc, so steady away, no sudden acceleration, keep her going and you will get up, it's the same engine, gearbox, tyres etc.

no fast and furious wins uphill on slippy stuff. going up atleast, Id never stop and only slow down if had too. my way would be less damaging to the field too. At work

Disagree with you there CG, as soon as you break traction going to fast you will start to lose speed. Momentum is required, get going at a decent speed but not revving to highly and keep it consistent, if you break traction don't back off or you won't regain traction, n GGS will keep a handle on the slip and get you to the top. Thumbs Up

I did try it at Cold Coniston on the LRE day, set off, constant speed, fairly quick to keep momentum and we got to the top, then we tried the other way, balls out gung ho and it was grass and mud flying evrywhere with very little progress.
If you have chunky knobbly tyres your way will get you to the top, with standard FL tyres my way is best.

If you reply CG a simple yes or no will do Rolling with laughter
