well here's a weird one, my sister has a friend who has an air-bag oozing oil and the dealer is perplexed !!!!!!! its a 2008 model

They have no idea what it is or where its coming from and that's how its been left ! so my question is, has anyone else seen this.

I suspect oil is travelling up the wiring loom from somewhere like auto box or pressure sensor or haldex and the oil is just finding its way to an exit point
Picture is very difficult to make out but am assured its a passenger air bag and when the oil is cleaned up it re-appears. personally I haven't worked out which way up the picture should even be !

When oil goes along a loom it is usually by gravity as per the TD5 injector loom syndrome. This appears to be going uphill!

What is it that fires the airbag when it goes off?...nitroglycerin?.....  John

Is that not the "knee bag" pictured?

Been out and had a look at mine, the picture is definitely the drivers side knee bag, the dark area in the top right of the pic is the steering column

well done, I couldn't even guess which way up the picture was

if its drivers side I wondered whether oil mist could even be blowing up the column ? from the turbo if a pipe is leaking. I would really like to know what they find eventually.

No, The dealer keeps assuring them its not oil ! but they don't know what it is ! ( sounds about right for a dealer !) They really do let them selves down. There is obviously an issue, the professional approach is to find where its coming from.
They just clean it all up but it comes back !

I can only guess that maybe an 'Earth Wire' will make it go away, it's worked in many other situations

I have this experience on my old car,OPEL, the problem was one sensor on fuel pump leaking diesel oil,due to verry good seal of connection the oil was travelling inside of one wire up to the ECU,because nobody on the dealer now this problem i started investigate,first step was to remove one piece of insulation on all wire on ECU until i found the wire ,after checked wiring diagram i found and the sensor.
Because of this experience i can sai that you have one sensor leaking diesel oil,check first all connection on ECU (diesel engine computer) to see if there is any liquid there,if not remove all covers inside of the car until you find the wire with problem and check wire diagram to see from where is coming that wire.
BE carefuly,my ECU was destroied because that diesel oil was going INSIDE of ECU and after some time stared to be defective ( due to diesel oil corrosive propr.)Sorry for my poor english.

Interesting point. The fuel pressure sensor is indeed a bit higher up in the engine compartment so gravity my have a role here. However, diesel does smell somewhat.

in order to have oil traveling inside of electrical wire you should have a high pressure,the only one point it's high fuel oil pressure line,including fuel valves.there is not possible,until now as per my experience,to have lub oil or brake fluid sensor leaking,due to low pressure working pressure.

Not quite so cata26bcn. The well documented TD5 injector loom problem had no oil pressure at all. The oil simply ran down the loom by gravity eventually reaching the ECU under the driver's seat.....been there done that!  John
