Planned (rumoured) date for Freelander 3 launch

Anyone have up to date info on the current planned date for the FL3 launch? I've seen auto press articles pushing it out to 2015, but hoping these are wrong! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Land Rover haven't even owned up to it officially existing yet so 2014 I'd guess if it was announced this year. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
Family's: 2009 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway

All depends on the markets, what else is in the pipeline etc and how well the face lifted/ updated FL is doing.
If there are any Halewood workers on here, they may well see tell tale signs at the plant, with work being done in preparation for a new model?
I also think a lot will depend on how well the high end products are fairing, if the new Range Rover is a success it will hinder development of low end models, it's at the top were the cream of the margin is. It makes more sense to build lots of Range Rovers rather than lots and lots of Freelanders.

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

The spy shots on autocar said spring 2015. Obviously thats not 100% accurate but if they are saying that I'd imagine it will be 2015 at the earliest 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE

Early 2015 is 100% right. I was speaking to one the R & D guys at at LR in September and he was telling me the 2013 update was designed to take the car to 2015, Spring of that year is the target date.

The name Freelander 3 also may not be used. If they keep the Freelander name, it may be badged just 'Freelander', but an all new global name is being considered. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

It doesn't work like that Taz, market conditions don't come in to it, as they have a product time line that they always work to. They have development teams for each product line, so even if RR is doing well, the Freelander is still a major product for JLR. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Thx

Thx for replies so far, despite common view we may indeed have to wait till 2015! I'm still hoping that by then LR will have a production version of their much heralded diesel electric plug-ín hybrid engine as one option.

As for the possible name change, I must say I'd prefer it was a Freelander 3, especially if "Evoque" is an example of their current naming prowess! Reverting to the generic "Freelander" strikes me as unlikely, in view of the very chequered reliability of Freelander 1s.

Would be go to have a comment from any LR insiders as well. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I can see the stretch Evoke and a new Freeander being one and the same. Perhaps one an upmarket version, the other not so.

As for naming, It looks like model names are devoping under the LR brand.

Range Rover, with 3 models.

Perhaps the new Freelander will become a model sub brand under the Discovery hame, or whatever new name they come up with.

So you have the Land Rover brand, then up mariet, Range Rover, more practcal/liesure/family Discovery (or a new name) and Defender, or whatever the Defender replacement is. 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE
2001 MGF
2007 Mazda CX-7 2.3T Petrol (Still in the family)
2004 MG ZT-T 180 + V6 Monogram
2011 Mazda MX-5 1.8 Miyako (PX'd for the Landie)
Others of the past of note have included
MGTF 160, MGF, Ford Puma, Volvo V40 T4, Volvo 940 Wentworth, Rover R8, Volvo 360 GLT, Chrysler Horizon GLS.

There never appears to be any logic in a manufacturers naming process, so it is pointless in trying to surmise what they will do.

Remember the Evoque was going to be called Land Rover LRX, then Range Rover LRX, then at the last minute Evoque name was used. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

7 seats? ........ hope that's not a reason to add 10k to the price! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

new freelander 3!

I hear that the new freelander will have 2 wheelsbases. LW will be a 7 seater option.
The new model will replace both the discovery and the freelander. Possibly aluminium panels, but not yet confirmed. 2015 is a "best guess".
incidentally the new freelander factory in China is very near one of the biggest bauxite mines (aluminium ore) in the world - interesting!
Aluminium is where many makers are going, including JLR. Look at the new Ranger Rover - 45mpg!
