Aftermarket Switch Fitting To Dashboard

All,

Before I start stripping the dashboard down, does anyone know if there is sufficient room at the rear of the lower right hand driver’s dash to locate an aftermarket switch (UK - Right hand drive). I’m thinking about the area between the steering column shroud and the light switch panel ( just above the airbag panel). Seems to be the obvious place to locate a switch but I cannot tell how thick the plastic panel is or if there’s anything behind.

My other option would be to fit it to the removable instrument surround (opposite side to the starter button).
I understand the official LR kit for the pod light conversion places the switch on the main dash section between the removable dash instrument surround and the outer air vent. I don’t like the idea of cutting in to the soft dash material, besides I would like the switch out of the way.

The switch would be an isolator for the driving lights I plan to fit so I would like to fit it as near as possible to the main light switch panel.

Thanks,

Chris

switch location for Aux lights

Chris, This may help. I installed the LR004480 Aux. Driving lights the other day and it had me install the switch right where you want to put yours (if I read your post right). I want to attach a scan of the fitting instructions (p 14) that shows where you want to do install the switch, but can't figure it out. I recommend downloading the fitting instructions for the aux driving lights from to get some clue how they do it at the factory. It may come in handy.

You can see my post about the install at

I hope this helps. Please hit me with any questions and I MAY be able to help. I took the whole damned thing apart installing these, so I've seen what it looks like behind the dash.
Cheers!
Doug

Doug,

Just looked at the link, very good looking job.

Quick question, did you have any problems removing the instrument cluster surround? I tried removing it a few days ago to have a quick look behind but the retaining clips either side of the steering column didn’t want to come out. Seeing as the surround assembly is relatively thin plastic and not wishing to break anything, I decided to wait and try another day (when time allows).

I have looked at the fitting instructions for LR004480 as I am going to use the same route to run the harness to the switch (when I decide where to fit it)

All the best,

Chris
