Advice pls on removing scratches

Following my Great Easter Egg Robbery Shocked (see General forum), I now unfortunately have a few feint scratches on the tailgate (Stornway Grey) of my lovely FL2. My Canadian brother suggested I should be able to get rid of these using a gentle rubbing compound designed for clear finish paints. Can any of you enthusiasts recommend a suitable product available in the UK, or offer any other tips? The scratches are just short feint white lines, presumably scratching just the clear coat. Thx. Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Hi

you could try Scratch X by meguairs,it all depends on the depth of scratches

if you can feel it with your fingernail, thats Sad ,it may need machine work, otherwise, ScratchX may help

[Scratch X

Eliminate fine scratches and swirl marks with ease. This advanced formulation removes scratches and swirl marks while enhancing the paint colour. This product should not be confused with the many aggressive ‘cutting compounds’ available on the UK market. More gentle than other formulations, it won’t leave behind more scratches than it takes out, making it ideal for quick touch-ups or reviving a car’s entire paintwork, even on today’s softer clearcoat finishes. ] 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway Grey, Black interior, privacy glass

I would use

Auto Glym Super Resin Polish

I have used it on my were i got a bit of Bramble Rash whilst driving down tight country lanes and it came out a treat.

I have heard good reports on 3M Hand Compound (or something thats sounds simular) for scratches that are a bit deeper.

There is also the colour coded Turtle Wax Polishes as well Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

This may sound stupid but for light scratches i use Tesco's version of T-Cut, i have a friend who is a proffesional valeter and he has told me that it is made to the same consistancy as the old style T-Cut before they changed it to the metallic version, i find it works very well, and cheap too. As far as deep scratches i use G3, it is a trade rubbing compound, works well but you need to be careful as you can take the paint off especially on the edges. "I havn't grown up, I just buy bigger toys"

If you claiming on your insurance for the rear window, under this they would normally cover scratches been sorted out without effecting your NCD

With metalic paint you will have a clear coating of lacquer on top of the paint, has it gone through this?

One scratch has gone through. There are a couple others which seem more superficial.

i would look at a car detailing company that offer paint correction in that case as you might be able to built it back up and re lacquer just there area and sand and power polish the scratch like thye would a stone chip, these type of people work with paint measurer's that see how much they can work with

Or some Chip fixing company, they did a good job on my old car, but didn't match the paint very well on my dads old lexus

I checked about this with my insurers ......... the answer is "Yes, they do cover scratches being sorted out as well as tyhe windscreen replacement" ....... however "the claim would then be subject to the normal policy excess, i.e. £200 rather than the windscreen excess of just £60". Crying or Very sad

Looking at the few scratches today, I think I'll wait till some finer weather and have a go at polishing them out myself.
