High price for Easter Eggs!

We visited Nottingham this Easter weekend, staying just 3 nights with a relative.

As is good practice, particularly in cities, we emptied the FL2 of all valuables as we were street parking in a quiet residential road in the NG5 area. We awoke at 06:15 on Sunday to an alarm, and realised slowly it was our alarm on the FL2 (not heard it before!) Rolling Eyes Checked out the bedroom window and all seemed ok, so I silenced the alarm and we relaxed again; thought it must be cos it was so Censored cold up there!

On checking an hour or two later we discovered to our horror, that someone had indeed broken in the Landy, by smashing in the rear window and grabbing the one bag left in there, containing 5 modest sized Easter Eggs. Evil or Very Mad Of course there were shards of glass, and fine glass dust everywhere inside and out. Big Cry

So I spent much of Sunday calling people to try and get it all fixed; not easy in the middle of a long Bank Holiday weekend. 5 stars to Autoglass for going out of their way to locate and collect a replacement screen, which was not in their local stock; and then taking great care fitting it in the freezing and windy conditions.

Net cost of those Easter Eggs? ....... £648 + £20 for the chocolate ... and we didn't even get to eat them!! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Twisted Evil

Let's hope the opportunist early riser who lifted 'em felt it was worth his while!
Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Hi Nick, sorry to have read such a far too common tale inflicted by some of the scum that live in our over-populated country, we have had superglass film fitted to our sumatra black (best colour) FL2, so if the low life do try to get into the car they will only smash the glass unless they are realy persistant. If anybody else fancies making their car safer, try the Pentagon glass web site.
Regards.
Adrian.

nah

Sorry .... I refuse to allow Censored Tescos into another one of my discussion strings! Evil or Very Mad

Yes CG, I'm certainly claiming on insurance for the replacement rear screen as this doesn't hit my NCB, though I've still got to cover the excess of course. Big Cry Life is not a dress rehearsal!

Sorry to hear that Nick....................B Censored d's taking what they think they are entitled to!!

A couple of things to learn here for all of us that have been talked about before.

When the alarm goes off actually go and check and taht doesn't just go for your car, but do your public duty and check what, where and when an alarm is going off, you might prevent someone elses eggs getting stolen Very Happy

The other is that the window films that are out there make it a lot more difficult for people to get into the car and can potentially be worth the money.

Do as Nick does which is remove all of your valuables from your car, no matter where you park.

When I was a student, I lived in Hull. I had my car broken into a few times, once they stole a plastic bag with my dirty shorts and t-shirt from the gym.

I guess the moral of the story is that just because you know what's in the bag, and that it's worthless, doesn't mean the person nicking it does, until they open it that is

I wonder if privacy glass invites a breakin? after all if they can't see in they may just break the glass to see if theres anything worth taking?
