Paint Quality

Washed my LR2 the weekend.

Just thought I'd compliment LR on the quality of the finish.

Also have a 50k BMW - the finish on that isn't a patch on the LR, it has a strange 'orange peel' effect.

orange peel effect is normally the sign of a bad paint job which has been done by hand not machine

Accident damaged repairs normally come back with this Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The orange peel effect is a result of using water based paint, I think it is a result of moving to using High Volume Low Pressure spraying equipment.

Its amazing how many new cars suffer from orange peel effect in the paint strait from the factory

I agree land rover paint is very good.. doesn't the brochure say they won a JD power award or something? I hope it ages well. Its a shame they use white as an undercoat as this shows up easily after little scratches chips etc on my black fl2 At work

Grey does not show the little scratches and chips as bad Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Your not listening Santorini is the new black,, grey is well just grey really. Also with black all the bits that landrover couldn't be bothered to paint dont show up so well Cool

Lets hope landrovers dont suffer the vauxhall/opel problem where all the black trim gets sun bleached to a milky grey colour. Mrs George once had a corsa sxi and the wheel arches turned white Confused. At work

Mine have been coated with a trim protection/restorer called BLACK WOW, tiny little 4oz bottle that cost me £18

Quite impressed by it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hi there,

I am a qualified Coatings Inspector and the primary cause of the "orange peel" coating defect is the failure of the paint film to flow out. This is usually caused by poor application techniques, (over application), or by incorrect solvent blend.

If and when the milky grey plague gets my black bits, I guess my FL2 be long gone Whistle
In the meantime BLACK WOW sounds like a good preventative, however it will probably cost £50 here in Norway Shocked 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

kiwi scuff guard shoe polish! ?

I suggest grey owners allow the trim to fade to grey, so it matches the paint Sad At work

I re-blacked Mrs Georges corsa with shoe polish in order to trade it in, the mini salesman was so dazzled by it he didn't realise the cam shaft was knackered in a big way! Laughing The engine sounded like a bag of spanners! At work

I also understand that peanut butter is used by dealers on black bumper plastics, no not a joke, it is because it has natural oils.

Mind you crunchy type don't work Laughing Freelander 2 - SE
