Window mystery

Hi guys,

On a couple of occasions recently, I have returned to my Feelander to find all the windows fully down. Shocked

Am I doing something daft when locking the vehicle, or have I git a dose of the gremlins? garioch43

When you returned was the car also unlocked? If so, it may be a problem with the remote button, if you press and hold the open button the doors will unlock and all the windows will drop, similarly if you have the keys in your pocket and inadvertently press the button.
Check the fob first Thumbs Up

Thanks taztastic.

Yes - it was unlocked. I did suspect it had something to do with the key fob.

My home office is just a few feet from the car in the driveway, so was probably sitting on the "open" button. Embarassed garioch43

And with me, usually when I'm carrying something heavy/bulky, although I usually seem to flash the lights at myself rather than unlock the car.

Given the range of the FL2 key fob this is something of a worry - one could open the car from the other side of a car park and never know anything about it until returning to find the contents of the car all gone! I wonder if one can get/make some kind of rigid cover which would prevent the buttons being pressed in error.

I had great fun a couple of years ago worrying some dodgy looking sorts from across the river in York city centre...the Freelander was on the side of the river and I was in a restaurant opposite and noticed them looking through windows. Cue alarm from the fob and headlights when they returned and were lingering in front of the car!

Be careful though, we used to have a Focus and on 2 occasions the windows had all dropped, and the button wasn't pressed. If it keeps doing it and you're being careful not to touch the buttons, could be worth getting a new remote/swapping key. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Hmmmm some thing springs to mind. Question? When your car is locked and you unlock it with the key. If theres no door opened with in a short time " cant remember how long of the top of my head" the car relocks its self.
So, if you sit on the key fob long enouh to wind the windows down does this cancelled to auto lock on the car?
I must say ive never tried this to find out.

That's very valid superspark, yes if they doors remain Unopened then it will re lock itself, I think it is 1 minute.

I told you he would Laughing

right, been out and tried it

Unlock only but do not open any doors and they re lock after about a minute.

Unlock and lower windows but dont open a door, windows lower, after one minute the doors re lock and the windows stay down.

taztastic, Well that one mystery solved. Shame the windows dont go back up. It could be raining hard one night and in the morning everything is all wet.
With that in mind, second question? If doors relock and the windows stay down, what mode is the alarm now in?
Does this meen that the alarm is still active and if so if someone was to stick their head in there would the alarm be triggered?

As with a single lock the perimetric system is armed I imagine it would just be that, as two clicks are needed to am the volumetric system.
No, I am not going out to try Laughing
