Tow Bars and Al-Ko 3004 hitches

Any caravanners had a problem with the spacing between the back of the car and the tow ball on a fixed factory fitted tow bar when using the above towing hitch/stabiliser unit?

Do I need any modifications or does the standard fitting work fine?

Thanks for any help. Thumbs Up

I have the al-ko 1300, and it was necessary to fit the al-ko extended neck tow ball.

The stabiliser would have binded on the standard LR ball.

I think this applies to all of the al-ko stabilisers.

I have a AL-KO 3004 hitch and a fixed dealer fitted towbar and have experienced no problems at all.

I had a quick look on the al-ko website and there are dimensions of suitable tow balls that can be used.

Might pay you to check those against the tow ball that you have on the Freelander.

Thanks for that. I'm led to believe that the Al-Ko towball has a slightly extended neck which gives the 68mm from centre of tow ball required.

Good to get views from fellow F2 owners who have actually got one.

Thanks again lads, much appreciated.

I have the Al-ko 2002 stabilizer hitch on my caravan. On the car I have an Al-ko towing ball and 1 inch spacer fitted to the standard fixed height Land Rover towing bracket. It works fine and the stabilizer handle can be lifted up to its maximum position.
The only minor problem I find is the brake-away cable cannot be fitted through the hole in the bracket and looped back on its self, as the hole is too small. I use a small shackle to overcome this problem.

No need to worry about that CG as we will be traveling too slow.
As you can guess CG I haven't gone away with the van for Easter, as there are too many caravans on the road. Laughing

Have a good Easter

bit flipping windy for carvaning I guess. I'm staying indoors burning those lovely logs I chopped earlier. Might go for a drive along the A1 tomorrow and count the caravans in the hedges Laughing

Mrs George got a bulling from a fellow shopper today for parking in the bays reserved for cars with babys etc. A bit harsh she does have a baby, its just not come out yet.

I was going to call them that but are there 'father and child slots' or are guys expected to push the trolley further if they have the little one with them?

When my 2 lads (aged 4&6) are beating the Censored out of each other in the back it pays to be able to park as close to the entrance/exit as possible Wink 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass

Its an Al-ko 2004 not a 2002. (Typo error).
