Its dark at night inside my car...

now that I have your attention with my utterly stupid headline.. I want to talk about atmosphere inside the cabin.

I have owned cars where a hooded LED in the roof would shine down a nice light so that I could see what was going on in my center console area (without the need for map lights being on).. has anyone here sorted out such a mod?

I've changed my interior bulbs to LEDs.

It's made a big difference to the interior at night, for the better.

aaah, very nice!, but it wasnt quite the angle I was going for..

The lights I mean are on all the time, and they only just give enough light so that you can see the location of buttons, things in the console etc, without the need to turn on the large map lights, which is great if you are driving : )

I'd rather go the other way, and be able to turn off everything but the main instrument lighting!

I once had a car (I can't now remember which) on which one could turn off all interior lighting - even the instruments. If you want atmosphere try driving one a pitch-black night in the country with the only lighting being your own headlights. Nice.

Over the weekend I fitted a 20 led strip light to the roof in the luggage area and wired it into the side courtesy light, it was very simple to do and took about an hour - for someone not technically minded or competent I amazed myself. It makes a tremendous difference when I open the tailgate. I needed this for when I go night fishing and got sick trying to find things in the gloom. Got the light from The Bay - cost about £13 + a bit of wire and some connectors. Tony

Tonyc,

Have you got details, pictures etc? I was just looking at doing a similar thing yesterday.

I have a couple of options. I did purchase a festoon adapter with a small square of LEDs although I also have a LED strip.

Thanks
Simon

I was just waiting for someone to say that - I knew it would be coming! Smile

You're not wrong, of course, but this one did actually have a switch for it.
