I think that's what I said Andy, just too many words to make it even more confusing

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

What's the confusion EY? Outside goes outside, simples! The tyre happens to be asymmetric - ie one side to outside of the car. The tyres in my gallery are Avon Ice which illustrate this. (snow groove to outside) Directional tyres will have an arrow indicating the direction of travel. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

thanks for clearing that up!, would it be safe to say that some designs of tyres, on one side of the car will not work as efficiently as tyres on the other side?

(enen though I understand that it is only in dry conditions that both tyres have relitavely similar performance on both sides at the same time)

If the tyres were mounted as above in the picture, and the steering wheel was turned to the right under braking, would it be different to the wheel being turned to the left under braking for example?

That's a good representation Thumbs Up

Just when I thought I wasn't confused, you put up something that does Laughing

Although the 'groove' on both is inside, the curved bits are the opposite ways so clearing wouldn't be as good on one side Exclamation confused again Confused

That's me confused too! Are those tyres Asymmetric (yes), Directional (maybe) or both? 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Doesn't quite answer but gives more info (in a rather boring way I fear)
It looks from this article, http://www.ctyres.co.uk/tyre_info/asimetrical_tyres.html which shows a similar pattern, that the apparently directional tread doesn't make any difference. However it also states that "Some tyres can also be both asymmetric and directional "

There's a long discussion on Pistonheads at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...&mid=0 which goes a bit off track but seems to confirm that the tread, although it looks directional, isn't.
