I can confirm that using the 2SO JASO FD oil in diesel it helps the DPF. Before using the 2SO oil, after 1 or 2 weeks of driving in the city, the DPF Full message pops up. Now, after using 2SO and more than 2 weeks, the same driving stile, there are no more any DPF messages. Also the engine is quieter. Hope it will stay like that ...

We initially thought that 2sO increases the cetane rating. But in actual fact it slightly lowers it.

Yamaha Fan posted that 2 stroke oil increases the octane rating of diesel which effectively is the same as reducing the cetane. High cetane fans on a local forum down here, used this to discredit the benefits of 2 stroke oil Confused

Good news about the effects on the DPF, atlas Smile

Hi atlas

thanks for sharing that with us. Please try to switch to JASO-FC 2sO, as the fully synthetic FD variant can block the DPF over time.

Your observation regarding the extended burn free cycles when using 2sO is quite correct.

For those not yet fully up to speed with the 2sO issue, the more solid combustion residue particles are produced, the QUICKER the the DPF will have to go through a regeneration cycle.

So that should be an eye opener. Thumbs Up With kind regards

@DiscoGeorge,

Does this means that FD variant burns with more ash ?

I'm not an expert on this topic but according to Wiki JASO FD variant is the same as FC but with far higher detergency requirement.

Thanks.

Hi atlas

Fully synthetic JASO-FD 2sO's are mainly formulated for very high performance 2-stroke engines, where ash free burn is less of a criteria. Critical here is the guaranteed lubrication for up to 18'000rpm and in some cases even higher.

Due to that, the additives added to JASO-FD are not DPF friendly.¨

I hope this answers your question. With kind regards

Mineral or semi synt.

Hi everyone.
I read this thread about 2SO for a long time.I've got Mitsubishi Pajero 2011 with DPF since new (20000km now) and was using semi syntetic 2SO for the last 10000km but find it quite pricey.I could get Castrol Actevo 2SO mineral oil which is significantly cheaper. Is it suitable for the car with the DPF? The spec of the oil is API TC, JASO FC, L-EGC.
Many thanks.

As we are a friendly bunch, any JASO FC for a DPF vehicle and JASO FB for non DPF Smile

This is the stuff to get currently at Tesco at £1.48 per litre, though hve only found it filling stations not the stores so far. JASO FC spec so can be used in both variants.

Bargain Thumbs Up

Might be some left if the Disco boys have not purchased it all, 25 bottles so far in my garage Embarassed

Yep, that is the one. Saw the same oil at Halfords for around £9 Shocked so "just in case" it might be only some limited offer I bought 12 bottles and might get more(call me greedy Twisted Evil ).

And what are my experiences since I started with 2SO?
Haven't noticed any difference in fuel consumption(might be that my right foot just got heavier) but there is a significant difference with the engine being quieter and smoother plus less frequent DPF cleaning cycles.Well and fuel pump and injectors are without doubts happy too.

The only reason to get FB is if it is cheaper. FC will work just fine in a non-DPF engine as well.

Also, the ashless oil used for 2 stroke outboards (TCW-3 spec) works just fine with diesels as the Nth Americans use this a lot ('normal' 2-stroke oil is a rare commodity over there due to emmision restrictions limiting the sale of the vehiciles that use it )

In this country you would be hard pushed to find FC cheaper than FB, hence the quote.

Hi guys

in non-dpf vehicles, the advantage of using JASO-FC is the higher additive content combatting carbon buildup. From a lubricity enhancing point of view both will work just fine.

For vehicles with VVT turbos only Jaso-FC should be used, as it effectively cleans the vane mechanism which can get blocked over time by carbon build up. But not for those engines that are run with the 1:200 ratio 2sO added. Thumbs Up With kind regards

Been on to Mercedes Website today, to see if there is anything in the G-Class user manual, since my last post back in March 2011, just after Yamaha Fans claim that 2SO was an allowed additive

But there still no mention of 2SO been added, but there is a section on flow improvers, which i don't recall been there last year Confused

Quote:
Flow improvers

Flow improvers can be added to improve the cold resistance of diesel fuel. The effectiveness of flow improvers cannot be guaranteed with all fuels.

Only use flow improvers tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. During use, please observe the information on operation.

Correct dosage and thorough mixing are decisive factors in ensuring improvement in low-temperature resistance. Under certain circumstances, an excessive dosage may actually decrease low-temperature resistance and should therefore be avoided. Follow the manufacturer's dosing instructions.

Mix the additive into the diesel in good time, before the flow characteristics of the diesel become insufficient. Otherwise, malfunctions can only be rectified by heating the entire fuel system, e.g. by parking in a heated garage.

More information about recommended flow improvers can be obtained from any qualified specialist workshop.

which i have googled this list of approved improvers

    Quote:
    MB 137.1 Fließverbesserer A 000 989 28 45 Daimler AG, Stuttgart/Deutschland
AUTOL TP 10 Eni S.p.A., Refining & Marketing Division, ROME/ITALY
AVIA Flow Plus Avia Mineralöl-AG, München/Deutschland
Flow Guard ERC Emissions-Reduzierungs-Concepte GmbH, Buchholz i.d.N./Deutschland
    minus DK Innospec Limited, Herne/Deutschland

Not sure what or if these are manufactured additives that are supposed to be the same as 2SO

googling each of those additives they are all cold weather type additives, so my guess is the search continues for this elusive 2SO statement Confused
