Service every 6 mths?

I bought my fl2 6 mths ago. just got a letter asking me to book in my first service.
I call trivett sydney where I got the car from. the guy said I need to service the car every 6mths or 12,000km which ever come first. he said it will cost approx AUD600 for the 1st one.

ha? every 6mths? I check Landrover site all over the world and all said every 12mths.
trivett sydney explain that is australia schedule for all new landrovers, not just freelander2.

what you guys think?

I had my 6mth 12k service today and it cost $328 and came with a loan FL2 i6 SE. Me thinks your gettin ripped off by your dealer.

It would be a bad idea to skip this service because your oil should be changed after 6 months espically the first 6 months. 2007 TD4 SE

Just pick up the car from Trivett Sydney.

the service cost AUD633.30.

Service 12,000km/6mths ---> $325
Oil filter I6, washer, washer additive ---> $35.41
Mobil 1 oil, sundries, waste oil disposal levy, oil top up ---> $215.31
GST $57.57
Total $633.30

also checked loan car, $66 per day.

only 8050km on the clock and I reckon it is way too expensive. My 3 series service cost a lot less.
I will definitly call around before I book in my 2nd service.

Hi Benny,

the LR 2 has got a service indicator on the cockpit. You do not have to service it till it tells you to do so. Unless you think there's something wrong with it.

yes. it has a day counter and it ask you to service every 6mths.
but my question was whether a modern car really need to service every 6mths?

X3 only need to service every 25,000kms or 2yrs. And their service similar price to my FL2.

In fact, i know Landrover in other countries require FL2 to service every 12mths or 10,000kms.

humm.. dun see other manufacturers have the same problem. And not only we need to service more often than others, each service cost more than most other European cars. AUD6xx (1st service) and AUD8xx(2nd service).

I love my FL2 very much. but the running cost really much higher than others.
My brake pads only has (35%front 30%rear) left after 1 year(15,000km). 90% of my driving was on highway.
My last 325i(1500kg) pads lasted 60,000kms in 4yrs time. Same 80km trip(most highways) every work days.
I know FL2 is much heavier car. but even my mum's Toyota van(1900kg) pads last longer than that.

I think what Landrover need to do is put more energy on reducing running cost of their cars.
I love FL2, Disco3 and RR Sport. They have style that others just can't match. Would really love to upgrade to RR Sport next. But if they not improving in running costs including fuel consumption etc.. dun think I will buy Land Rover again. Sad

It depends of the type of engine oil they use. Did you check if they are using the semi synthetic or the fully synthetic oil?

I think the service intervals has a lot to do with what we will cop and not what is really required, otherwise we would be looking at longer intervals like all of landrovers other markets.

I haven't checked my brake pads yet, however my rotors are starting to wear a bit.

I service my car every 6 month. Now I've already had 2 services done and in 2-month time, it will be another one. I didn't pay single penny for the service, thx for corporate program with 3 year free servicing. Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE i6

The best thing anybody who owns a Land Rover can do is NOT EVER get their car serviced by Land Rover dealers. I have had two Freelanders totalling over 270,000 km over the last ten years. For the first 6 years I had services done religiously at a Land Rover dealer in Melbourne as per the book. Service charges were stupidly high (higher than my wife's BMW) and work was invariably poorly done resulting in at least one and sometimes two trips back to the dealer to get things rectified that often weren't broken before the service.
Fortunately this particular dealer closed the dealership near me (they are still operating elsewhere) so I was forced to go in an independent specialist.
My service charges have dropped by over 50%.
I have NEVER had to return the car for rework after a service.
I no longer NEED brake pads changed every 20,000km (I still drive the same car on the same roads, go figure)
I get somebody who knows my car looking after it.
I am now a happy Land Rover owner.
There is no legal requirement to get the vehicle serviced by Land Rover to maintain the warranty. In fact if you find an independent service centre with a good reputaion for Land Rovers you will probably not need any warranty repairs in the first place.
Talk to fellow long term Land Rover owners in your area and find where they get their vehicles serviced I bet it's not at a dealer. When you find the place go there and be happy.
