Stand on the rear wheels to do 3/4 of the roof, then stand on the front wheel to do the rest. Just don't slip off.

A soft brush is fine, as long as it's properly rinsed and clean every time it's used.

I use a caravan type brush with a long handle, one bucket, same bucket of suds does all the car, hose it off, dry it off with micro fibre and have loads of swirls.
