England 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Dynamic Manual Fuji White
Looking to buy

Hi all
I've had 2 FLs in the past (Rover engined 1 and a TD4) and have been in hatches since.
I'm now looking at 4wds again as i like the driving position (i drive a 3.5t van all day) and have always liked the look of the FL2.
I've seen a 2007my with 80k, TD4,GS, Fsh which looks mint in the photos (its 2 hours away from where i live) and it's up at £9995 which looks to be 1 of the cheapest with less than 100k.
At this mileage are there any concerns (turbo, etc) or should it be reliable if main dealer serviced?
I know most/ all TDi cars after 2007/2008 have DPFs which mean unless you do a lot of miles they clog up and either need a clean out or with some cars you can have them removed/ remapped out - does the FL2 have this problem? I do short trips (8 miles to work and back) so need to know if i'd have problems.
With 80k what is the next service - is it a major? do they have belts to change at this mileage, gearbox oils to change, etc?

DPF is standard on all diesel from 11MY and optional from 08MY.

No DPF until after 2009 on UK cars (might be 2011?)
75k service is an A service - so oil change and filters. Timing belt is 150K or 10 years - so you have a long way to go with 8 miles to work.
Warning - it's nothing like the FL1, take a test drive first, it's also NOTHING like a hatch, good news is it's better than both.
Gearbox is "filled for life" - that means when the oil is knackerd your gearbox will soon follow, you could always change it yourself at a reasonable mileage 100K? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Thanks for the replies
So no need to worry about DPF - is there anything else?
I remember on the last TD4 i had (2006my sport) i fitted an EGR delete pipe and Synergy tuning box - would something similar improve things on the FL2 or is it ok as standard? (FL1 was a hazard pulling out at junctions due to hesitation).
Does the 4wd system cope with high miles?

I know tyres don't last as long on something this heavy compared to a hatch but i want reliability with the occasional wear+tear consumables, don't want to have to fork ut for expensive repairs

Cheers

Last set of tyres lasted at least 40k - how long do the fronts last on a hatch?
4wd system is nothing like the FL1 - far more reliable, a few have given grief, but a very small percentage.

Repairs can be very expensive - it's a "premium brand" after all, find a local independant specialist and you can save a packet Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

40k for tyres is very good - Fiesta 1.6 tyres lasted 20k, Abarth 500 fronts 14k and these were light hatchbacks?

Just checked prices on the whatcar site and the 1 i'm looking at which is up at 39995 is worth £7.5k as a p/x and dealer price is £9100 so it's priced wayyy too high Sad

So buy private at £7.5K and risk any faults.
Dealer has to factor in warranty, and boy can you spend a lot more than £1,600 on any LR, if the previous owner has got rid because of niggles, just look at the price of a clutch and dual mass flywheel.

If your handy with the spanners, and can spot trouble from a test drive go for the cheap option every time. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Well dealer phoned today to say it has been sold Sad but does have another same model/ colour/ year but with 96k at same price?
The dealer is a trader who sells from home - i bought a car off him a couple of years ago and the warranty wasn't worth much so i'd probably look at warrantywise, etc which can be bought for cars upto 100k

I can't understand the 2nd car being the same price when it has another 16k on it? he did say this was a 1 owner where the other was a 2 owner but that shouldn't affect the price?

Ah well i'll sleep on it and see what tommorow brings Confused

Its the same price because he already has a punter (you) wanting one. He would probably price it a bit less but seeing as he knows you are in the market and willing to pay the price for the first one its obvious he will keep the price the same.

Keep looking but dont wait too long - as soon as the ice starts to appear demand for 'proper' 4x4's picks up and prices tend to inflate slightly.

FSH - shows detailed services (are they really 15000 - 20000 apart?) although other said FSH
Both have towbars, exact same colour and spec, lower mileage 1 had 2 owners where higher has 1 previous

lower mileage - http://www.wynyardmotorcompany.co.uk/cars/carpage.php?carId=409

higher mileage - http://www.wynyardmotorcompany.co.uk/cars/carpage.php?carId=410

just noticed the last service on the higher mileage car was done 32k after the 2nd service - isn't that way overdue so not really FSH?

Thanks - really want a grey one and budget is £10k max as it'll only be used for 80+ miles a week so don't want something too expensive

service intervals are (from memory coz im too idle to check the book) 15000 miles or 12 months which ever comes sooner. The service history on the higher mileage one show that after the 3rd service it wasnt serviced for another 32000 miles which as you state wouldnt really class it as having full service history as it appears to have missed one. Also bear in mind unless the dealer services it before you take it off his hands you will be having to have it serviced after another 4000 miles. On the 90000 miles service LR recommend the brake hoses are replaced meaning that a service that would normally cost about £350 at a dealer would be more like £500 (probably alot cheaper at an indie) - might be a good bargaining tool with the dealer - shows you have done your homework! Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
