United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Best:

1. Engine/auto box combination.
2. Towing ability.
3. Comfort/ease of use/value (got around your '3' limit Thumbs Up )

And an extra thumbs up for letting me walk away unscathed when some burk ploughed head on into me in an FL1!

Worst:

1. Boot a bit awkward
2. Ground clearance
3. Lights...after driving my GTI with xenons I thought something was wrong with the freely! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35
Family's: 2009 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Auto, Stornoway

Here are my 5 öre of opinions...

Best:
Driving position - height
Heated windscreen
Feeling of invincibility Smile

Worst
EXPENSIVE service / parts (in Sweden at least)
Short seats (no support for legs)
Boot space without any stowing pockets - everything ends up loose in the trunk... It's never too late to learn something new...

Sorry to interupt the flow on this slightly, but I've used estate cars as business load carriers for 3 decades and (with the exception of my old Citroen XM estates - the best estate car ever built, bar none!), these are hugely practical load carriers. Their biggest advantages are the the square nature of the load space and height that is no longer available in any conventional estate car (MPV's and micro MPV's excluded). Its suspension is also remarkable well adapted to heavy loads. I'm not sure why it's getting such a hard time here Question

Hi Tigger,

I think the Freelander boot looks smaller than it really is. Maybe because the car looks big and bulbous you expect a cavern at the rear. But it is not a huge boot.

We had a Mondeo estate and it had a larger boot, not as high but much longer and wider. So we were a little nerous about going on holiday and getting everything in. But a full height load barrier liberated the height and we got by, admittedly with one case less than in the Mondeo. In the end we were surprised how much we could fit in, which is why I say it is bigger than it looks. Rear seat space is also less than the Mondeo's. Loading baby seats in and out with kids, etc. showed up a difference for us. Which as it is approx. 20cm shorter is to be expected.

None of these are show stoppers as we bought the Fl2 and are very pleased with it. There are many areas it spanks the Mondeo, including comfort and low down grunt of the diesel, security in bad weather, plus tyres are far cheaper Wink

Cheers Harvey

United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Best

1. Ride height / Seat comfort (upgraded to Premium)
2. Load / Boot space - one of the main reasons for buying
3. On and Off road capabilities - not that I've gone off road, but know it can, and also is a very capable all weather vehicle

Worst

1. Auto gearbox - jerky changes coming down the gears and often lets the revs drop too far
2. Bump / Torque steer - especially under braking, might need alignment checking
3. Vehicle width - a plus and a minus, but on our narrow roads NS paintwork is a bit scratched from hedges etc, and requires more awareness, it's over a foot wider than my previous car

1, To Just Drive IT, Thumbs Up
2, Very Good in the Snow. Thumbs Up
3, Heated seats & Screen, on those cold morning. Thumbs Up
4, Very Comfortable Thumbs Up

WORST

1, The Clutch is Censored very Poor. Evil or Very Mad
2, 37.7 MPG !!! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter ( only if you drive it on a long run)
3, The boot could be bigger. Neutral

....yes I know that Doc, but it always catches me out and irritates me that I should have to opt out each journey to something I would never have chosen to opt into!
Just make it user selectable - job done.

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

BEST
1) Land Rover ride height and comfort
3) SD4 performance
2) Strong body/paint - might just be luck (and I hope I haven't jinxed myself) - but statistically speaking going from 6 noticeable carpark dings in my last car in space of a year, to none in two years with the FL2 is significant.
3) Whatever LR have done to stop windscreen misting up every time it rains - and I do not even have heated windscreens

WORST
1) Price of Diesel
2) Material on dashboard - got a few streaks which wont shift
3) Headlights (missed the HID in my last car)
