2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver
violent bang under front suspenson extention

Hi guys,

I.have been very carefull with my recently acquired lr2, I love the floaty feeling compared to the defender.. anyhow, we have speed bumps here that go up about 20 cm, then they run for about 10m then fall 20cm again. I am normally very mellow, after all there is no reason to hurry if you are important right? Haha.. well today I was a little "less important" and carried speed off the bump, not into it and as the wheel extended down to follow the road, I was met wit a very loud bang, like the shock extended all the way, or something loose managed to resit itself without the weight of the car sitting on it..

I tried again after looking.. and same thing happened.

2010 on 16 inch standard tyres 70503km, still in warranty. All thoughts welcome before I call dealer tomorrow?

Perfectly normal, it is almost as if the suspension is topping out, rather than bottoming out, Both of my prervious freelander2's have done this it is nothing to worry about.

Wow, scary! You are right, its topping out. Normally I would expect a bump stop though.. was it just the front of yours, or the back also?

Thanks for the speedy reply by the way!, flawless behaviour Smile

Yep, same here, I guess springs that can hold that sort of weight and allow the travel they do are going to pack one heck of a punch when throwing a few kg,s of wheel and tire.
Done it a few times and it always scares me.

I have had my 2007 FL2 for a week and had the same thing over a hump-back bridge....

I was going about 10mph slower than i would have done in my previous car, a Subaru Impreza which coped with the hump with no drama. In the FL2 it definitely felt like the suspension topped out quite hard.

I still love the FL2 though!

About 45/50 instead of 55/60mph.........

It definitely felt to me like there was insufficient rebound damping ........

I have had this a few times when going a bit quick on single track moor roads, normally when one side drops and the other raises... Freelander 2, 2014 Dynamic SD4 Santorini Black

Allright, good to hear I wasn't alone about that, but I've heard earlier that the suspension was noisy. It's never too late to learn something new...
